TATA IPL 2026, Match 45: SRH vs KKR – Match Report
03 May, 2026
The Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) executed a brilliant comeback to stun the Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) by seven wickets in a crucial afternoon clash on Sunday. Heading into the fixture desperate for a win to keep their playoff hopes alive, KKR orchestrated a massive momentum shift in the first innings, triggering a SRH collapse. Chasing 166, an anchoring half-century from Angkrish Raghuvanshi ensured KKR crossed the line comfortably with 1.4 overs to spare, snapping the Sunrisers' five-match winning streak.
Sunrisers Hyderabad captain Pat Cummins won the toss and elected to bat first on a typically dry afternoon surface in Uppal. The decision seemed justified early on, despite Abhishek Sharma (15 off 10) departing cheaply.
Travis Head immediately assumed the role of the aggressor, putting the KKR pace attack to the sword. Head smashed his way to a scorching 61 off just 28 deliveries, an innings laced with 9 fours and 3 sixes. He found excellent support from Ishan Kishan, who contributed a solid 42 off 29 balls (4 fours, 2 sixes). At 105 for 1 in the 9th over, the hosts were cruising and looked well on track for a 200-plus total.
The match completely flipped in the middle overs as KKR’s spin duo took charge. Mystery spinner Varun Chakaravarthy broke the back of the Sunrisers' lineup, exploiting the tacky afternoon pitch to return match-winning figures of 3 for 36.
The pressure compounded when veteran Sunil Narine applied a relentless squeeze from the other end (2 for 31). The fielding energy from KKR spiked simultaneously, highlighted by a breathtaking one-handed screamer from Rovman Powell in the outfield. Following Head and Kishan's departures, SRH suffered a catastrophic collapse, losing 9 wickets for just 60 runs. Kartik Tyagi (2 for 30) cleaned up the tail, bowling out SRH for 165 in exactly 19 overs.
Defending 165, SRH needed early breakthroughs. However, KKR opener Finn Allen immediately put the hosts on the back foot. Allen blazed his way to a rapid 29 off just 13 balls (3 fours, 2 sixes) in the Powerplay before falling.
Following the aggressive start, captain Ajinkya Rahane and Angkrish Raghuvanshi constructed a highly composed partnership that safely navigated the chase. Rahane played a measured knock of 43 off 36 deliveries before being dismissed by young Sakib Hussain (1 for 17).
Raghuvanshi, however, proved to be the absolute anchor for KKR. The youngster registered a flawless 59 off 47 deliveries, striking 5 boundaries and 2 maximums to ensure the required run rate never escalated. Although Shivang Kumar (1 for 31) eventually removed Raghuvanshi, the platform was perfectly laid. Rinku Singh walked in and provided the finishing touches, smoking an unbeaten 22 off 11 balls (2 fours, 1 six) alongside Cameron Green (3*) to seal the chase at 169 for 3 in 18.2 overs.
This was a must-win game for KKR. Entering the match in 8th place with just 5 points, this victory gives them a massive lifeline. If they are to make the playoffs, they will need to ride this momentum and treat every upcoming game as a knockout. Despite the defeat snapping their brilliant five-match winning streak, SRH remains in a strong position. Sitting 3rd on the points table with 12 points, Pat Cummins and his side will look at this middle-order collapse as a wake-up call to address before the business end of the tournament.
