TATA IPL 2026, Match 65: KKR vs MI – Match Report
20 May, 2026
The Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) registered a gritty four-wicket victory over the Mumbai Indians (MI) in Match 65 of the TATA IPL 2026 at the Eden Gardens. On a surface that offered considerable assistance to both seamers and spinners, the hosts expertly chased down a tricky target of 148 with seven deliveries to spare thanks to an invaluable partnership between Manish Pandey and Rovman Powell that kept KKR's playoff aspirations firmly alive while consigning the Mumbai Indians to another difficult defeat.
Kolkata Knight Riders captain Ajinkya Rahane won the toss and elected to bowl first, a decision immediately justified by his seam attack. Cameron Green struck a double blow in his opening spell, first removing Ryan Rickelton for 6, who was safely pouched by Manish Pandey after executing excellent judgment under a high skier, and then trapping Naman Dhir for a duck. Young speedster Saurabh Dubey intensified the pressure by delivering a sensational spell, dismissing the legendary Rohit Sharma (15), courtesy of a sharp, backpedalling catch by Cameron Green at mid-off and followed by Suryakumar Yadav inside the Powerplay, leaving the visitors reeling early on.

Tilak Varma and captain Hardik Pandya (26) attempted to consolidate the innings, but the KKR spin duo of Sunil Narine and Varun Chakaravarthy applied a relentless chokehold in the middle overs. The hosts missed a massive opportunity to apply further pressure due to a lack of communication in the field; a towering skier induced by the spinners resulted in a chaotic mix-up between wicketkeeper Angkrish Raghuvanshi and Varun Chakaravarthy, where neither fielder called for the ball, allowing it to fall safely to the turf for a glaring dropped chance. It then required a late counter-attack from Corbin Bosch, who blasted an unbeaten 32 off just 18 deliveries to drag the Mumbai Indians to a respectable 147 for 8.
Chasing 148, KKR suffered an early setback when Deepak Chahar drew first blood, dismissing the destructive Finn Allen for 8 in the opening over. Captain Ajinkya Rahane (21 off 17) and Manish Pandey sought to stabilize the innings, but the Mumbai Indians fought back tenaciously by chipping away with crucial wickets to leave the Knight Riders in a precarious position. However, Manish Pandey and West Indian powerhouse Rovman Powell absorbed the mounting pressure and mounted a beautifully calculated counter-attacking partnership of 64(47) to revive KKR’s chase.

Pandey utilized his immense experience, compiling a composed 45 from 33 deliveries with six elegant boundaries, while Powell matched him stroke for stroke, scoring 40 off 30 balls, highlighted by two crucial maximums. Although Corbin Bosch returned to pick up crucial late wickets to finish with stellar figures of 3 for 30 along with a stunning catch at backward point to dismiss Rovman Powell in order to give MI a glimmer of hope. But till then, the damage had already been done, allowing Anukul Roy and Rinku Singh to calmly navigate the final hurdles and secure the four-wicket win in 18.5 overs. Manish Pandey was adjudged the Player of the Match for his composed knock in the chase.
