TATA IPL 2026, Match 38: LSG vs KKR – Match Report
26 Apr, 2026
The Kolkata Knight Riders pulled off one of the most spectacular heists in TATA IPL history, defeating the Lucknow Super Giants in a nail-biting Super Over in Match 38. Hosted at the Bharat Ratna Shri Atal Bihari Vajpayee Ekana Cricket Stadium in Lucknow, the match was a pure pendulum of momentum. After an astonishing five-wicket haul from Mohsin Khan decimated the KKR top order, Rinku Singh played an innings of a lifetime to drag his side to 155. A dramatic last-ball six from LSG's Mohammed Shami forced a tie, but Sunil Narine’s sheer brilliance in the Super Over ultimately sealed a legendary away victory for the Knight Riders.

Lucknow Super Giants captain Rishabh Pant won the toss and elected to bowl first, a decision that immediately looked like a masterstroke thanks to Mohsin Khan. The left-arm pacer unleashed absolute terror with the new ball, severely strangling the KKR top order with hard lengths and impeccable pace manipulation. Mohsin sent Tim Seifert, Ajinkya Rahane, and Rovman Powell packing inside the Powerplay, reducing the visitors to a disastrous 31 for 4. He returned in the middle overs to remove the dangerous Cameron Green and Anukul Roy, finishing with spellbinding figures of 5 for 23 in his four overs. This phenomenal effort marked his maiden IPL five-wicket haul and left KKR gasping for air at 93 for 7 in the 15th over.

Just when Kolkata seemed entirely buried, Rinku Singh stepped up to execute one of the most inspiring rescue missions of his career. On a sluggish Lucknow track where every other batter struggled, Rinku found a completely different gear. He absorbed the pressure, reached his half-century, and then unleashed sheer carnage in the final over, bowled by Digvesh Rathi. Rinku mercilessly dismantled the bowler, launching four monstrous sixes to plunder 26 runs off the 20th over. He finished unbeaten on a spectacular 83 off just 51 deliveries, single-handedly dragging the Knight Riders to a highly competitive 155 for 7.

In reply, the Lucknow Super Giants struggled to find a fluent rhythm against a disciplined KKR spin attack. Rishabh Pant attempted to anchor the chase with a measured 42 off 38 balls, while Aiden Markram (31 off 27) and Ayush Badoni (24 off 19) contributed vital but brief cameos. Vaibhav Arora (2 for 24) and Varun Chakaravarthy (2 for 33) applied a brilliant squeeze in the middle overs, constantly picking up wickets to keep the hosts in check.
The drama reached its absolute peak in the final over, bowled by Kartik Tyagi. Following a dangerous high full-toss that resulted in a no-ball and a free hit, LSG needed 15 runs from the last five deliveries. The equation eventually boiled down to 7 runs required off the final ball of the innings. In a moment of pure disbelief, tailender Mohammed Shami hammered a stunning six over the long-off boundary, tying the game at 155 for 8 and sending the Ekana crowd into absolute delirium.

However, the Super Over belonged entirely to the Kolkata Knight Riders. Captain Ajinkya Rahane handed the ball to veteran maestro Sunil Narine, who delivered an absolute masterclass under the highest possible pressure. Narine shattered Nicholas Pooran's stumps on the very first delivery. After Pant managed a single, Markram attempted a massive heave, only to be dismissed by a spectacular relay catch between Rovman Powell and Rinku Singh at the long-on boundary. LSG lost both their wickets for merely a single run. Chasing a target of 2, the man of the hour, Rinku Singh, casually dispatched Shami's very first delivery for a boundary to seal a breathtaking win.
Rinku Singh was rightfully named the Player of the Match for his extraordinary 83 not out and four catches.
