TATA IPL 2026, Match 15: KKR vs LSG – Match Report

Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) pulled off one of the most dramatic chases of the season, edging past Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) by three wickets on the final ball at Eden Gardens, chasing down 182 in a thriller that swung wildly till the very end.

The hero of the night was Mukul Choudhary, whose breathtaking 54* off just 27 balls — studded with seven sixes — turned the game on its head. Walking in with LSG in deep trouble, Choudhary forged a stunning 54-run stand with Avesh Khan, the highest eighth partnership in a successful IPL chase, to snatch victory from the jaws of defeat.

Earlier, LSG had opted to bowl first after winning the toss. KKR’s innings never quite found uninterrupted momentum. Finn Allen fell early, but Ajinkya Rahane and Angkrish Raghuvanshi steadied things with a fluent 84-run stand for the second wicket. Just as KKR looked set for a big push, both batters fell in quick succession, stalling progress.

The slowdown became more pronounced through the middle overs, with Cameron Green taking time to get going against spin. After 15 overs, KKR were 115/3, having managed just nine runs in the previous three overs.

But the final five overs flipped the script. Green found his range, and Rovman Powell provided the finishing punch as the duo hammered 66 runs to lift KKR to a competitive 181/4. Powell remained unbeaten on 39 off 24 balls in his first outing of the season, while Green finished with 32 not out off 24 balls.

In response, Lucknow Super Giants got off to a steady start. Aiden Markram and Mitchell Marsh added 41 runs in just four overs, putting immediate pressure on KKR. However, Vaibhav Arora triggered a collapse, dismissing Markram before Marsh fell two balls later, shifting momentum sharply.

LSG never quite recovered from that double blow. Wickets kept falling at regular intervals, and at 104/5 — with Rishabh Pant, Nicholas Pooran, and Abdul Samad back in the pavilion — the chase looked all but over.

Ayush Badoni tried to hold things together, bringing up his half-century with a six in the 15th over. But his dismissal on the very next ball, followed by Mohammed Shami’s wicket soon after, left LSG staring at defeat.

That’s when Mukul Choudhary took over.

Announcing himself with a towering straight six off Vaibhav Arora in the 17th over — his first of the season — Choudhary unleashed a breathtaking assault. Anything short was pulled mercilessly, while fuller deliveries were dispatched with audacious strokes with the helicopter bat swing.

With 14 needed off the final over, Avesh Khan handed the strike to Choudhary on the first ball, scoring his first run in the partnership. What followed was pure drama: a six off the second ball, two dots, and then another incredible six over deep cover off a wide yorker.

With one needed off the last ball, Choudhary swung hard, missed, but scampered through for a single. Raghuvanshi’s missed direct hit at the striker’s end sealed KKR’s fate as LSG completed a famous win with three wickets in hand.

In their unbeaten 54-run partnership, Choudhary scored 52 off 21 balls, while Avesh contributed just one — a stat that perfectly captures the former’s dominance.

After three matches, LSG move to fifth on the table with two wins. KKR, meanwhile, are left searching for answers, still without a victory and languishing at the ninth spot.
