TATA IPL 2026, Match 69: MI v RR – Match Report

Rajasthan Royals (RR) sealed the final playoff spot of TATA IPL 2026 with a commanding 30-run victory over Mumbai Indians (MI) at the Wankhede Stadium, riding on a superb all-round performance from Jofra Archer in their final league-stage fixture.

The victory took Rajasthan Royals to 16 points and secured their place in the playoffs, where they will face Sunrisers Hyderabad in the Eliminator at Mullanpur.

After being put in to bat, RR endured a shaky start. Vaibhav Sooryavanshi fell for 4, Yashasvi Jaiswal managed 27, and captain Riyan Parag departed for 14 as the visitors lost three wickets inside the powerplay.

Dhruv Jurel and Dasun Shanaka attempted to rebuild, but RR struggled to string together substantial partnerships. Jurel made a valuable 38 off 26 balls before being bowled by Corbin Bosch, and at that stage Mumbai appeared to have the upper hand.

That changed dramatically in the closing overs.

Promoted up the order, Jofra Archer produced a stunning counterattack, smashing 32 off just 15 balls. His innings featured three towering sixes and injected momentum into an innings that had been in danger of stalling. Alongside late contributions from Ravindra Jadeja, Archer helped RR plunder 73 runs in the final five overs, lifting them to a formidable 205.

Mumbai's chase never truly recovered from the damage inflicted by Archer with the ball.

RR’s premier seamer, Archer struck twice with the new ball, removing Rohit Sharma for a duck and Naman Dhir for 6. Nandre Burger then accounted for Ryan Rickelton as MI slumped to 24/3. The slide continued when Brijesh Sharma dismissed Tilak Varma, leaving the hosts reeling at 49/4 at the end of the powerplay.

Suryakumar Yadav and Will Jacks briefly revived hopes with an attacking fifty-run partnership. Jacks scored a brisk 33 off 18 balls before Yash Raj Punja broke the stand, reducing MI to 101/5.

Just when Hardik Pandya threatened to launch a fightback, Archer returned to deliver the decisive blow. The fast bowler extracted extra bounce from a hard-length delivery to dismiss the MI skipper, after which Mumbai only struggled to regain momentum.

Suryakumar remained the lone source of resistance, compiling a fighting 60 off 42 balls. But with little support from the other end, the task became increasingly difficult. Burger then removed the MI batter with a caught-and-bowled chance, extinguishing the hosts' final hopes.

Mumbai were eventually restricted to 175, ending a disappointing campaign on another low note.

For Rajasthan, however, this was the perfect way to enter the playoffs. Archer's game-changing contribution with both bat and ball earned him Player of the Match honours and provided valuable momentum ahead of a high-stakes Eliminator against Sunrisers Hyderabad.
