TATA IPL 2026, Match 43: RR v DC – Match Report
01 May, 2026
The Delhi Capitals (DC) produced a batting masterclass to pull off their highest successful run chase in Indian Premier League history, defeating the Rajasthan Royals (RR) by 7 wickets in Match 43 of the TATA IPL 2026. In a high-scoring spectacle at the Sawai Mansingh Stadium that yielded 451 runs, the Capitals hunted down a daunting target of 226 with five deliveries to spare.
Rajasthan Royals skipper Riyan Parag won the toss and elected to bat first on a true Jaipur surface. The hosts signaled their aggressive intent immediately when Yashasvi Jaiswal deposited the very first ball of the match into the stands. However, Australian speedster Mitchell Starc—making a highly anticipated return from a shoulder injury—struck back instantly to remove Jaiswal. When Kyle Jamieson castled young Vaibhav Sooryavanshi in the following over, the Royals found themselves in early peril at 12 for 2.

The recovery was orchestrated brilliantly by Riyan Parag and wicketkeeper-batter Dhruv Jurel. The duo stitched together a crucial 102-run partnership to completely reset the innings. Parag was in sublime touch, effortlessly finding the boundaries to compile a spectacular 90 off just 50 deliveries, heavily laced with eight fours and five sixes. Jurel played the perfect supporting role, adding a measured 42 off 30 balls before falling to the left-arm spin of Axar Patel.

Just as the Royals looked set to post a massive total, Mitchell Starc returned in the 17th over to execute a momentum-shifting double strike, removing both Parag and Ravindra Jadeja (20 off 14). However, the Capitals' death-bowling woes resurfaced when Donovan Ferreira walked to the crease. The South African powerhouse unleashed an unprecedented assault, bludgeoning an unbeaten 47 from a mere 14 deliveries. Ferreira smashed two boundaries and six towering maximums, propelling the Royals to plunder 63 runs in the final four overs and finish at an imposing 225 for 6.
Chasing 226 demands a flawless start, and the Delhi Capitals' opening pair of KL Rahul and Pathum Nissanka delivered exactly that. The duo launched a relentless counter-attack against the Royals' new-ball attack, registering a brilliant 110-run opening stand that instantly put the hosts on the defensive.
Nissanka took on the role of the primary aggressor, carving out a rapid 62 off just 33 balls. The Sri Lankan opener registered his maiden Tata IPL fifty in a breathtaking 23 deliveries before finally being trapped by Ravindra Jadeja. KL Rahul, meanwhile, anchored the chase with absolute precision. Showcasing his trademark elegance and power, Rahul compiled a match-winning 75 off 40 balls, striking six boundaries and five sixes to completely dictate the tempo of the innings.
Pure elegance on display! 👏

When Rahul eventually fell to Jofra Archer in the 16th over, the Capitals were already in a commanding position. Nitish Rana maintained the momentum with a brisk 33 off 17 balls, ensuring the required run rate never escalated out of control. Despite Tushar Deshpande managing to dismiss Rana, the depth of the Capitals' batting lineup proved too much for the Royals' bowlers.
Tristan Stubbs (18 not out off 11 balls) and Ashutosh Sharma (25 not out off 15 balls) absorbed the remaining pressure with a mature, composed finish. Ashutosh creatively utilized the crease, striking four boundaries to safely guide Delhi across the finish line at 226 for 3 in 19.1 overs. KL Rahul was adjudged the Player of the Match for his classy opening act that boosted DC’s chase.
Sealing a superb chase 👏
