TATA IPL 2026, Match 52: RR vs GT – Match Report

The Gujarat Titans (GT) delivered a completely dominant performance to crush the Rajasthan Royals (RR) by 77 runs in Match 52 of the TATA IPL 2026. In a crucial top-half clash hosted at the Sawai Mansingh Stadium in Jaipur, the Titans posted a mammoth 229 for 4, courtesy of a scintillating 84 from captain Shubman Gill. In response, a vintage four-wicket haul from Rashid Khan dismantled the Royals' formidable batting lineup, skittling them for 152 in 16.3 overs. The comprehensive win represents the largest victory margin in the Gujarat Titans' IPL history.

On a night dedicated to the Royals' "Pink Promise" initiative, stand-in captain Yashasvi Jaiswal won the toss and elected to bowl first on a traditionally high-scoring Jaipur surface. However, the Gujarat openers quickly neutralised the home advantage.

Captain Shubman Gill and the consistent Sai Sudharsan forged a massive 118-run opening partnership in just 10.5 overs, laying the ultimate foundation. Gill was in supreme touch, perfectly blending elegance with sheer power. The GT skipper hammered 84 off just 44 deliveries, an innings laced with nine boundaries and three towering sixes (operating at a phenomenal strike rate of 190.91). At the other end, Sudharsan timed the ball beautifully, bringing up another brilliant half-century before falling for 55 off 36 balls (6 fours, 2 sixes).

Once the openers departed, Washington Sundar ensured the momentum never dipped. Promoted up the order to provide a late flourish, Sundar blazed his way to an unbeaten 37 off 20 deliveries (2 fours, 3 sixes) at the death. Despite the Royals' bowlers trying to execute slower balls, the scoreboard pressure kept mounting. Brijesh Sharma managed to pick up 2 for 47 in his four overs, but GT closed their innings at a highly intimidating 229 for 4.

Chasing 230 demands an explosive Powerplay, and Vaibhav Sooryavanshi provided the initial spark. Continuing his destructive form, the young opener blasted 36 off just 16 balls (3 fours, 3 sixes), notoriously welcoming Mohammed Siraj (1 for 55) by hitting him for a six on the very first delivery he faced. The Royals were flying at 68 for 2 in 5.3 overs, keeping the home crowd firmly engaged.  However, the introduction of Kagiso Rabada (2 for 33) and Rashid Khan completely turned the match on its head. Rabada extracted crucial bounce to disrupt the top order, triggering a catastrophic middle-order collapse.

The night belonged entirely to Rashid Khan. The Afghan wrist-spinner wove a masterful web around the Royals, ripping through the heart of their batting unit. Rashid dismissed the reliable Dhruv Jurel (24 off 10), dangerous finisher Donovan Ferreira, and Shubham Dubey (15) to break the chase wide open. He finished his spell with spectacular figures of 4 for 33 in his four overs.  Ravindra Jadeja attempted to wage a lone battle in the middle order, top-scoring for RR with 38 off 25 deliveries (3 fours, 2 sixes), but he lacked any support from the other end. Jason Holder returned in the backend to systematically clean up the tail, claiming highly impressive figures of 3 for 12 in 2.3 overs as the Royals were bundled out for 152 in 16.3 overs.

Rashid Khan rightfully claimed the Player of the Match honours for his spellbinding 4 for 33. Coming in when the Royals were accelerating dangerously in the Powerplay, his consistent strikes through the middle overs completely dismantled the chase and engineered the massive collapse. This clinical victory is a massive statement. Riding a three-match winning streak, the Titans catapult to 2nd on the points table with 14 points from 11 games. With their batting firing and Rashid Khan back to his very best, they look like a formidable title contender.
