TATA IPL 2026, Match 36: RR v SRH – Match Report
25 Apr, 2026
Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) pulled off a stunning chase in Jaipur to defeat Rajasthan Royals (RR) by five wickets in Match 36 of TATA IPL 2026, successfully overhauling 229 with nine balls to spare in a high-scoring contest dominated by aggressive batting.
RR, after being put in to bat, rode on a sensational knock from Vaibhav Sooryavanshi, who lit up the evening with a blistering 103 off just 37 balls. His innings powered Rajasthan to a commanding 228/6 in 20 overs, with the bulk of the scoring heavily skewed towards his contribution.
Ruthless with the bat, all heart with the celebration! 🫶

The Royals made a strong start in the powerplay, scoring 76/1 in the first six overs, with Sooryavanshi leading the charge. However, despite the explosive beginning, RR couldn’t fully capitalise in the latter half. Wickets at regular intervals and a relatively quieter finish — including a slowdown in the final overs — meant they ended with 228 instead of pushing beyond 240, a total that had looked well within reach at one stage.
Dhruv Jurel provided solid support with a half-century, but beyond him and Sooryavanshi, contributions were limited, leaving RR slightly short of what seemed possible given their start.
In response, Sunrisers Hyderabad began positively despite an early wicket. Jofra Archer bowled a steamy first over, dismissing Travis Head. However, Abhishek Sharma and Ishan Kishan quickly overturned the pressure with a counterattacking stand.
Their partnership ensured SRH remained on track in what was always going to be a demanding chase. The intent shown in the powerplay set the tone, with the pair leading SRH to 89/1 at the end of the powerplay.

Through the middle overs, SRH continued to chip away at the target with calculated aggression. By the 10th over mark, they had hit 21 fours and only three sixes between them. Unlike RR, whose innings was heavily reliant on one dominant contribution, SRH’s chase was marked by shared responsibility across the batting unit.
After both batters were dismissed - Abhishek first for 57 off 29 and then Ishan Kishan for 74 from 31 balls - Heinrich Klaasen played a key role in stabilising the innings. He found able support in Nitish Kumar Reddy who smashed 36 off 18 balls. With wickets in hand and the platform set, SRH were able to time their final push to perfection.
The finishing phase was clinical. SRH accelerated at the right moments, capitalising on loose deliveries and maintaining composure under pressure to seal the chase at 229/5 in 18.3 overs.
For Rajasthan Royals, it was a case of a brilliant individual performance not translating into a win. Despite posting 228, their inability to sustain pressure with the ball and close out the innings with a stronger finish cost them. They would also rue the dropped chances against the in-form batter Abhishek Sharma.
Sunrisers Hyderabad, on the other hand, showcased the value of collective batting and smart pacing in a chase, pulling off one of the most impressive run chases of the season and strengthening their position in the tournament.
