TATA IPL 2026, Match 31: SRH vs DC – Match Report

Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) registered their third consecutive victory of the TATA IPL 2026 season, overpowering the Delhi Capitals (DC) by 47 runs at the Rajiv Gandhi International Cricket Stadium in Match 31. Riding on a breathtaking, career-best century from Abhishek Sharma, the hosts posted a colossal 242 for 2. In response, a disciplined Sunrisers bowling attack, spearheaded by Eshan Malinga, restricted the Capitals to 195 for 9, securing a dominant win for Ishan Kishan’s men.

Delhi Capitals captain Axar Patel won the toss and elected to bowl first, hoping his pacers would extract early movement. However, Sunrisers Hyderabad entirely dismantled the Capitals' strategy from the onset. Travis Head (37 off 26) provided a steady, aggressive start, but the night belonged exclusively to Abhishek Sharma.

The elegant left-hander produced one of the most spectacular innings of the season, remaining unbeaten on an astonishing 135 off just 68 deliveries. Sharma displayed immense clarity in his shot selection, treating both pace and spin with absolute disdain. He cleared the boundary ropes with remarkable ease, registering exactly 10 fours and 10 towering sixes.

When Head departed, captain Ishan Kishan added a rapid 25 off 13 balls to maintain the momentum. But it was Heinrich Klaasen who provided the ultimate late flourish. The South African powerhouse bludgeoned an unbeaten 37 off a mere 13 balls, striking at an incredible 284.62. The unbroken partnership between Sharma and Klaasen yielded massive returns in the death overs, as the Capitals' bowlers bled runs at an alarming rate. SRH concluded their innings at an imposing 242 for 2.

Chasing 243, the Delhi Capitals required a record-breaking start, but the SRH bowlers immediately applied the brakes. Dilshan Madushanka struck early to remove opener Pathum Nissanka. Wicketkeeper-batter KL Rahul attempted to set the tone with a brisk 37 off 23 balls (laced with 3 sixes), but he lacked sustained support at the top.

Nitish Rana emerged as the lone warrior for the Capitals in the middle overs. He fought valiantly, crafting a classy 57 off 30 deliveries, heavily targeting the spin of Nitish Kumar Reddy. Sameer Rizvi (41 off 28) and Tristan Stubbs (27 off 16) also contributed, but the sheer magnitude of the target forced the batters into constant high-risk shot-making.

Eshan Malinga proved to be the chief destroyer for the Sunrisers. Executing his variations perfectly, Malinga claimed crucial breakthroughs whenever the Capitals threatened to build a partnership. He finished with exceptional figures of 4 for 32 in his four overs which is best figures in the league. Harsh Dubey provided brilliant support, entirely derailing the lower-middle order to bag 3 wickets for just 12 runs in his two overs. The Capitals ultimately finished their 20 overs at 195 for 9.

While the Delhi Capitals displayed intent to chase the monumental target, Abhishek Sharma’s historic century and a clinical bowling performance by Eshan Malinga ensured the Sunrisers Hyderabad walked away with a comprehensive 47-run triumph in front of their home crowd. Abhishek was adjudged the Player of the Match for his record-breaking ton.
