The Punjab Kings (PBKS) finally snapped their agonising six-match losing streak with a spectacular run chase to defeat the Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) by seven wickets in Match 68 of the TATA IPL 2026. In a high-stakes, must-win encounter for the visitors, captain Shreyas Iyer led from the absolute front, smashing a majestic, unbeaten maiden IPL century. Punjab Kings captain Shreyas Iyer won the toss and elected to bowl first, a decision that yielded mixed results early on. LSG opener Josh Inglis kicked off the innings in a blazing fashion, plundering 16 runs off the very first over bowled by Arshdeep Singh (0 for 52). However, PBKS bounced back instantly. Azmatullah Omarzai (1 for 29) dismissed Arshin Kulkarni for a first-ball duck, and Marco Jansen (2 for 33) removed the dangerous Nicholas Pooran (2 off 7), leaving LSG stuttering at 20 for 2 inside three overs.

Despite the early setbacks, Inglis continued his brilliant form, anchoring the innings with a majestic 72 off just 44 deliveries, laced with nine boundaries and two sixes. The momentum swung significantly when Ayush Badoni walked in and unleashed pure aggression. He adopted an "AB Mode," smashing a breathtaking 43 off merely 18 balls (5 fours, 3 sixes) to inject crucial pace into the innings.

Just as LSG threatened to post a massive total, veteran leg-spinner Yuzvendra Chahal turned the tide. Chahal bowled a masterful spell in the middle overs, finishing with figures of 2 for 25. He first outsmarted Badoni with a brilliant piece of smart stumping by wicketkeeper Prabhsimran Singh, and later dismissed LSG skipper Rishabh Pant (26 off 22). Shashank Singh (1 for 29) also chipped in nicely to remove the set Inglis. In the death overs, Abdul Samad played a vital late cameo, blasting an unbeaten 37 off 20 deliveries to propel LSG to a highly competitive 196 for 6.
Chasing 197, the Punjab Kings suffered a catastrophic start. Veteran pacer Mohammad Shami delivered an absolute jolt on the very first delivery of the innings, having Priyansh Arya caught by Arjun Tendulkar for a golden duck. Shami (2 for 45) returned in his second over to cleanly bowl Cooper Connolly for a rapid 18 (off 10 balls), leaving PBKS at a precarious 22 for 2 in just 2.2 overs.
With the team under immense pressure and their season on the line, captain Shreyas Iyer and Prabhsimran Singh constructed a monumental, match-winning partnership of 140 runs for the third wicket. Prabhsimran was the initial aggressor, playing a lethal and fierce knock. He took down the LSG spinners, registering a brilliant 69 off 39 deliveries, featuring seven boundaries and two massive sixes.

While Prabhsimran attacked, Shreyas Iyer played a flawless, commanding captain's knock. He rotated the strike efficiently before systematically dismantling the LSG bowling attack. Even after Prabhsimran fell lbw to Arjun Tendulkar in the 15th over, Iyer refused to slow down. He completely dominated the bowlers, scoring an unbeaten 101 off just 51 balls at an incredible strike rate of 198.04. Laced with 11 boundaries and five maximums, Iyer's century sealed the massive chase alongside Suryansh Shedge (9*), finishing at 200 for 3 in exactly 18 overs.
