TATA IPL 2026, Match 47: MI v LSG – Match Report
04 May, 2026
Mumbai Indians (MI) pulled off their highest successful run chase in IPL history, overhauling 229 with remarkable ease to defeat Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) by six wickets in Match 47 of TATA IPL 2026 at the Wankhede Stadium. The hosts got there with eight balls to spare, making a daunting target look rather routine.
Opting to bowl first, MI — led by Suryakumar Yadav in the absence of Hardik Pandya — endured a tough start. Mitchell Marsh came out all guns blazing, striking six boundaries inside the first four overs to propel LSG to 51/1, with Josh Inglis departing early for 13 off five balls.
If Marsh set the tone, Nicholas Pooran took it to another level. After a lean run in the tournament, Pooran exploded back into form with a breathtaking 63 off just 21 balls, hammering eight sixes. Alongside Marsh, he added a stunning 94-run stand for the second wicket in only 35 balls, a phase where LSG looked set to push well beyond 250.

However, the game turned sharply in the ninth over. Corbin Bosch, brought into the side in place of Trent Boult, dismissed both set batters — Pooran first and then Marsh for 44 off 25 soon after — to stall LSG’s charge. The momentum dipped immediately. Rishabh Pant fell for 15 off 10 in the 11th over, and debutant Akshat Raghuvanshi, who began with a six, couldn’t capitalise, departing for 11 off seven.
With wickets falling and the innings threatening to lose direction, Aiden Markram and Himmat Singh steadied things. The pair adopted a measured approach, adding 68 runs off 49 balls to guide LSG to 228/5. Himmat made a composed 40 off 31, while Markram finished unbeaten on 31, though he faced only 25 deliveries in the latter half of the innings.
For MI, Bosch (2/20 in two overs) and Raghu Sharma (1/36) were the standout bowlers, helping pull things back after a brutal start.
In response, Mumbai Indians produced a near-flawless batting display. Ryan Rickelton and Rohit Sharma put on a sensational 143-run opening stand in just 10.5 overs, dismantling an LSG attack that had been in strong form coming into the game.
Rickelton was the aggressor, smashing 83 off just 32 balls, including eight sixes, at a staggering strike rate of 259.4. The partnership was clinical — no chances offered without any let-up in scoring. By the time Rickelton fell, MI needed just 86 from 55 balls and were firmly in control.

Rohit carried on the assault, accelerating from 58 off 33 to 84 off 44 before his dismissal. At that stage, MI required only 52 from the final six overs with eight wickets in hand.

Though Tilak Varma and Suryakumar Yadav couldn’t maintain the same tempo, there was no real pressure. Naman Dhir ensured calm in the middle, finishing unbeaten on 23 off 12, before Will Jacks sealed the chase in style with a six.
LSG’s bowlers had no answers on a night dominated by MI’s batting firepower. Apart from Prince Yadav (0/24 in three overs), every bowler conceded at an economy above 11.75.
Rickelton was named Player of the Match for his explosive knock that set up the chase.
The win marks Mumbai’s third of the season and only their second at home, keeping them ninth on the table. LSG, meanwhile, slumped to their sixth consecutive defeat, remaining rooted at the bottom.
