TATA IPL 2026, Match 53: CSK v LSG – Match Report
10 May, 2026
Chennai Super Kings (CSK) pulled off a five-wicket win over Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) in Match 53 of TATA IPL 2026 at the MA Chidambaram Stadium, chasing down 204 with four balls to spare. The victory was CSK’s third on the trot and lifted them to fifth on the points table.
After winning the toss and electing to bowl, Chennai Super Kings were put under immediate pressure by Josh Inglis, who returned from a hand injury in devastating fashion. The Australian tore into Akeal Hosein in the opening over, striking two fours and a six to set the tone.
Mitchell Marsh, fresh off a century in the previous game, took a back seat as Inglis dominated. The pair added 77 runs in just five overs before Marsh fell for 10 off 10 balls at the start of the sixth over. By the end of the powerplay, LSG had surged to 91/1 — their highest-ever powerplay score in the IPL — with Inglis contributing a blistering 77 off 25 deliveries.

At that stage, a total beyond 240 looked well within reach. But CSK stormed back magnificently. LSG slumped from 91/1 to 130/5 in 12.1 overs, losing Nicholas Pooran (1), Rishabh Pant (15), Inglis (85 off 33), and Aiden Markram (6) in a dramatic collapse.
Jamie Overton was at the heart of the turnaround. He removed Pant and Inglis in the same over and later dismissed Akshat Raghuwanshi, finishing with outstanding figures of 3/36. Anshul Kamboj also chipped in with 2/47.
With momentum slipping away, Himmat Singh and Shahbaz Ahamad steadied the innings with a vital 50-run stand off 32 balls for the seventh wicket. Shahbaz accelerated brilliantly, scoring an unbeaten 43 off 25 balls, including 26 off his final 10 deliveries, to lift LSG to a competitive 203/8.
CSK’s chase began brightly as Sanju Samson and Ruturaj Gaikwad put on 45 for the opening wicket before Digvesh Rathi struck in the fourth over.
But what followed was an astonishing assault from Urvil Patel.
After taking a single off his first ball, Patel launched five consecutive sixes to race to 31 off just six deliveries. His next two scoring shots were a four and another six, and in a flash he had brought up his half-century in just 13 balls, equalling Yashasvi Jaiswal’s record for the fastest IPL fifty.

Patel eventually fell for a breathtaking 65 off 23 balls. Alongside Gaikwad, he added 81 runs off only 34 balls for the second wicket, putting CSK firmly in control.
But LSG clawed their way back. Following Patel’s dismissal in the 10th over, CSK managed only 43 runs off the next 41 deliveries while losing three wickets, bringing the game back into the balance.
When Shivam Dube and Prashant Veer came together, CSK needed 34 off 23 balls. Both struggled initially, and the equation narrowed to 21 required from the final two overs.
LSG missed two chances to dismiss Veer in the 19th over, and with no seam overs remaining, Rishabh Pant turned to Aiden Markram for the final over. The gamble backfired. Markram began with two wides before Dube smashed back-to-back sixes to seal the chase with four balls remaining.
The defeat leaves LSG rooted to the bottom of the table, while CSK’s resurgence continues with a third consecutive victory.
