TATA IPL 2026, Match 51: DC vs KKR – Match Report

The Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) kept their playoff dreams firmly alive, registering their fourth consecutive victory with a commanding 8-wicket win over the Delhi Capitals (DC) in Match 51 of the TATA IPL 2026. Following a clinical bowling performance that strangled the hosts on a weary Arun Jaitley Stadium surface, KKR made light work of the 143-run target. The chase was defined by a breathtaking maiden IPL century from Finn Allen, who decimated the Delhi bowling attack to seal the match in just 14.2 overs.

Kolkata Knight Riders captain Ajinkya Rahane won the toss and elected to bowl first, reading the tricky nature of the Delhi surface perfectly. The Capitals started with fluent intent as openers Pathum Nissanka and KL Rahul negotiated the early overs effectively.  During his brief stay, KL Rahul (23 off 14) etched his name into the history books. He became the first player in IPL history to score over 1,000 runs for three different franchises (having previously achieved it for PBKS and LSG). Furthermore, he became the fastest batter to reach the 1,000-run milestone for the Delhi Capitals, getting there in just 24 innings to break the previous record held jointly by Rishabh Pant and JP Duminy (35 innings). His knock was eventually ended by a well-disguised slower ball from pacer Kartik Tyagi.  Pathum Nissanka continued to take the aggressive route, bringing up a composed half-century (50 off 29 balls). However, the match completely flipped as soon as the Powerplay ended and the KKR spinners took control.

The trio of Sunil Narine (1 for 17), Varun Chakaravarthy (0 for 28), and Anukul Roy (2 for 31) delivered an absolute masterclass in slow bowling, choking the DC middle order. Narine kept things incredibly tight, removing Sameer Rizvi, who miscued a sweep to deep midwicket.  The definitive turning point arrived through Anukul Roy, who delivered a devastating double-strike. Immediately after Nissanka reached his fifty, Roy outfoxed the Sri Lankan, having him stumped by Angkrish Raghuvanshi. In the very same over, Roy bamboozled the dangerous Tristan Stubbs, triggering a massive collapse.  DC captain Axar Patel struggled immensely, managing just 11 runs off 22 balls. His painful stay was ended by Vaibhav Arora (1 for 29), but the credit went entirely to Anukul Roy again. Fielding at deep midwicket, Roy ran at full speed to his left, grabbed a stunning diving catch near the boundary, lost his balance, and fell, but spectacularly held onto the ball.  If it wasn't for late fireworks from Ashutosh Sharma, who broke a 38-ball boundary drought to score a fighting 39 off 28 balls (3 fours, 3 sixes), the Capitals would have struggled to cross the 120-run mark. They eventually limped to 142 for 8. Kartik Tyagi was excellent at the death, finishing with 2 for 25.

Defending 142, the Delhi Capitals needed early wickets and briefly found hope. KKR were dented early with the unfortunate dismissals of Ajinkya Rahane and Angkrish Raghuvanshi. However, that was the end of Delhi's joy as Finn Allen and Cameron Green took absolute control of the chase.  The duo forged a massive, unbroken 116-run partnership off just 64 deliveries. While Green played a perfectly measured supporting role with an unbeaten 33 off 27 balls, Finn Allen shifted gears and launched a calculated, merciless assault on the DC bowlers. After beginning cautiously on a pitch that offered assistance to the bowlers, the New Zealand opener completely decimated the attack in the second half.  Allen hit 5 boundaries and a staggering 10 sixes during his onslaught. Needing a six to complete his century on the final delivery of the match, Allen smashed it into the stands, bringing up his maiden TATA IPL hundred and sealing the victory in just 14.2 overs. He remained unbeaten on 100 from 47 balls.

Finn Allen was the undisputed Player of the Match. On a pitch where almost every other batter struggled for timing, Allen’s explosive 100 not out completely demoralised the opposition and single-handedly finished the game with 34 deliveries to spare.
