What
Sunrisers Hyderabad will cross swords with Delhi Daredevils for the first time in VIVO IPL 2016 when the two teams come up against each other in Match 42.
Sunrisers Hyderabad are riding high; for the first time ever, they’ve won four matches on the trot and must be all pumped up, especially after Tuesday’s thrilling win over Rising Pune Supergiants. They sit at the perch of the standings with 14 points, and a win in this contest will almost guarantee their qualification for the Playoffs.
Delhi Daredevils are sandwiched between Kolkata Knight Riders, Mumbai Indians and Royal Challengers, who have either one win more, just as many as, or one less. DD have lost their last two matches and need to arrest the slide here as the race for the Playoffs becomes tighter.

The Protagonists
Among SRH’s batsmen, look out for the dangerous David Warner, for he is the one capable of demolishing opposition in quick time. After a poor start to the tournament, Shikhar Dhawan has come good with the bat and has played responsible-and-match-winning knocks in the last few matches. Look out for the three-pronged pace attack too, who’ve taken shape to be the most-potent bowling attack in the competition.
Batsmen have found run-scoring an extremely difficult proposition against the likes of Bhuvneshwar Kumar, Ashish Nehra and Mustafizur Rahman; not only have they stifled the batsmen, but they’ve also picked up wickets at regular intervals to deny opponents any kind of momentum.
Delhi Daredevils have plenty of young batsmen, who have put up their hands at different points of time. Quinton de Kock, Karun Nair and Sanju Samson have contributed to a large extent to the team’s success. DD’s bowling attack is a good match for SRH’s bowling line-up; Zaheer Khan has plenty of experience up his sleeve and can outwit the batsmen with his skill and vast experience, while Chris Morris and Amit Mishra have always been used as wicket-taking options. DD have opted for horses-for-courses for most part of the season and therefore it will not be surprising if they bring in Imran Tahir as yet another wicket-taking option on the traditionally spinner-friendly surface in Hyderabad.
Head to Head
Sunrisers Hyderabad will claim a huge psychological edge heading into their match against Delhi Daredevils, for they’ve emerged victors in five of the six matches between the two teams.
Trivia
Delhi Daredevils have effected 10 run outs this season; on the flip side, their batsmen have been dismissed in that manner only thrice.
Sunrisers Hyderabad have scored at the rate of 7.16 against the spinners; that is in contrast to their scoring rate of 8.21 against the quick bowlers.
David Warner is the only captain in VIVO IPL 2016 to win the toss, opt to bat first and go on to lead his team to a win; he did so in SRH’s previous match against Rising Pune Supergiants.
What Next
Both teams will be seen in action next on May 15. Next up for Sunrisers Hyderabad is their away fixture against Kings XI Punjab. The Delhi Daredevils meanwhile fly to Visakhapatnam for their away fixture against the Mumbai Indians.
