TATA IPL 2026, Match 8: DC vs MI – Match Report

Delhi Capitals ascended to a commanding six-wicket victory over Mumbai Indians at the Arun Jaitley Stadium. Chasing a target of 163, the home side rode on a spectacular 90-run blitz from young sensation and Player of the Match Sameer Rizvi, clinical finishing from David Miller, and a disciplined opening spell by Mukesh Kumar to secure their second consecutive win of the season.

Sent in to bat first, Mumbai Indians faced immediate pressure as Mukesh Kumar (2/26) struck early. The pacer removed Ryan Rickelton (9) in the third over before dismissing Tilak Varma shortly after, leaving the visitors reeling at 18/2.

Experienced campaigner Rohit Sharma provided a steadying hand, scoring a fluent 35 off 26 balls. He found support in stand-in skipper Surya Kumar Yadav, who anchored the middle overs with a composed 51 off 36 deliveries. Surya brought out his traditional sweep shots manoeuvring the field.

However, Delhi's spinners, led by Axar Patel and Vipraj Nigam, stifled the scoring rate in the middle period. Mumbai slipped from a promising 69/2 to 86/4 as the Capitals’ bowling unit maintained a tight leash. A late flourish from Naman Dhir (28) and Corbin Bosch pushed the total to 162/6, but it appeared sub-par on a surface that offered consistent bounce.

The Delhi Capitals' chase began on a shaky note as Deepak Chahar dismissed KL Rahul (1) in the very first over, followed by the cheap dismissal of Nitish Rana (0), courtesy of a brilliant run out from Jasprit Bumrah. Reduced to 2/2, the hosts required a partnership, which arrived via Pathum Nissanka and Sameer Rizvi.

Nissanka played the perfect foil with a quick-fire 44 off 30 balls, taking on the spinners and neutralizing the threat of Mitchell Santner. At the other end, Sameer Rizvi continued his breakout season. Rizvi’s innings was a masterclass in power-hitting, featuring 7 fours and 7 sixes. He reached his half-century in just 32 balls—his second consecutive fifty in the season and single-handedly tilted the required run rate in Delhi’s favor. He was effortless in his stroke-play and yet again maintained terrific composure in the chase and revived DC from a shaky start.

Although Rizvi fell ten runs short of a maiden century, holed out to long-off off Bosch’s bowling, the damage was done. David Miller (21)* and Tristan Stubbs ensured no further hiccups, with Miller finishing the game in style with a boundary in the 19th over.
