Preview: M19 - RCB vs DD

What

Royal Challengers Bangalore and Delhi Daredevils will come up against each other in Match 19 of VIVO IPL 2018. Both teams have played four matches so far, but have just the one win on the board.

RCB had a very good outing against Kings XI Punjab, but have since gone down to Rajasthan Royals and Mumbai Indians, conceding more than 200 in each of those outings. The bowling department has been RCB’s weak link over the years, and that appears to be the case this season too. There is variety and experience in the bowling department, but the bowlers have struggled to find means to keep the runs down. It would be fair to say that RCB are still figuring out their best combination, and their next four matches – all at home – will give them an opportunity to find a combination and make a rapid climb up the ladder.

The Delhi Daredevils have had a four-day break since their 71-run loss to the Kolkata Knight Riders. There is plenty of talent and ability in the DD line-up, but the team hasn’t got their act together; they need things to quickly fall in place before it is too late. The Daredevils are yet to play a match at home this season; this match will be last of their five-consecutive-away-matches stretch, and they will be hoping to head home with the confidence of a win behind them. Can they?

When

21 April 2018, 2000Hrs (IST)

Where

Impact Batsmen

The RCB batting revolves around Virat Kohli and AB de Villiers; no matter where they bat, the team will depend heavily on runs from their bat. The names of Rishabh Pant and Glenn Maxwell will be marked for big contributions in the DD batting line-up. The left-handers at the top of both teams – Quinton de Kock for RCB and Gautam Gambhir for DD – will also play important roles, for they have the ability to bat long, and switch gears and score quick runswhen the need arises.

Impact Bowlers

Leg-spinners have caused plenty of damage so far this season and YuzvendraChahal and Rahul Tewatiawill be expected to pick up wickets. Chahal came in for some tap in the previous match against MI, and RCB will want him to get amongst the wickets. Tewatia has been outstanding so far, picking up 6 wickets and conceding runs at an economy rate of 7.13. Umesh Yadav has had good days and bad days, as has DD’s Trent Boult, and both teams will need their pace spearheads to give a better account of themselves.
