TATA IPL 2026, Match 55: PBKS v DC – Match Report
11 May, 2026
Delhi Capitals defeated Punjab Kings in Match 55 of the TATA IPL 2026, pulling off the highest successful chase at the Himachal Pradesh Cricket Association Stadium in IPL. Chasing 211, Delhi recovered brilliantly from a shaky start of 33/3 in the fifth over, with their middle and lower order holding their nerve to seal a memorable three-wicket win and register their fifth victory of the season.
The evening began with the Punjab Kings’ openers making full use of the true bounce on offer. Priyansh Arya set the tone with a scintillating 56 off just 33 deliveries with six towering maximums. He found an able partner in Shreyas Iyer, whose elegant 59 stabilized the middle overs. Late fireworks from Cooper Connolly and a vintage cameo from Suryansh Shedge, who struck at a strike rate of 262.5, propelled Punjab to 210/5. For Delhi, Mitchell Starc remained the pick of the bowlers despite the carnage, picking up two wickets, though the sheer pace of the Dharamshala surface meant almost everyone else went for double-digit economy rates.

Delhi’s response was a masterclass in aggressive intent coupled with tactical calculated risks. While the top order struggled for rhythm, Axar Patel proved why he is one of the most valuable assets in the shortest format. Walking in under immense pressure, Axar bludgeoned 56 off 30 balls, a knock laced with eight boundaries that kept the required rate within touching distance. However, when Arshdeep Singh removed the dangerous David Miller for 51, the momentum seemed to swing back toward the home side.
Twist in the tale 👀

The game eventually boiled down to the death overs, where Madhav Tiwari emerged as the unlikely hero for the Capitals. With Punjab looking to squeeze the game, Tiwari smashed 18 off just 8 balls, including a crucial six that silenced the Dharamshala crowd. Ashutosh Sharma provided the final flourish with a rapid 24 off 10 balls, taking the attack to Yash Thakur and ensuring Delhi crossed the line at 216/7 in the 19th over. Madhav Tiwari’s all-round contribution—picking up two wickets earlier in the day and finishing the chase—rightfully earned him the Player of the Match honors.
This result had major implications for both sides in the race to the playoffs. For the PBKS, it marked a fourth successive defeat, keeping them at number four on the points table after missing the opportunity to climb to the top with a win. For the DC, the victory ended a run of back-to-back losses and kept their campaign alive. Defeat would have made them the third team to be eliminated this season.
