TATA IPL 2026, Match 39: DC vs RCB – Match Report
27 Apr, 2026
Defending champions Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) delivered one of the most ruthless bowling performances in IPL history to completely dismantle the Delhi Capitals (DC) by 9 wickets in Match 39 of the TATA IPL 2026. On a night defined by a ruthless new-ball bowling at the Arun Jaitley Stadium, RCB’s pace battery bowled the hosts out for a paltry 75 runs before their top order chased the target down in a mere 6.3 overs.
Royal Challengers Bengaluru captain Rajat Patidar won the toss and elected to bowl first, unleashing a pace attack that immediately validated his decision. The Delhi Capitals' innings suffered a catastrophic derailment right from the outset. Bhuvneshwar Kumar set the tone by removing debutant Sahil Parakh on the second delivery of the match, paving the way for an absolute procession. Operating with venomous accuracy and exploiting the early seam movement, Josh Hazlewood dismissed DC’s marquee top-order players—KL Rahul and Sameer Rizvi—in a devastating second over. With Tristan Stubbs, Axar Patel, and Nitish Rana quickly following suit, the Capitals spiraled out of control. Courtesy of immaculate lines of the Bengaluru pacers, the hosts ended up registering the lowest Powerplay score of 13/6 in the tournament's history, a testament to the sheer dominance of Hazlewood and Bhuvneshwar inside the fielding restrictions.

It took a desperately needed 30 off 33 balls from impact substitute Abishek Porel, supported by David Miller’s 19, to push the total past the infamous 49-run mark and add some semblance of respectability. However, the RCB bowlers maintained relentless pressure. Hazlewood returned to wrap up the tail, finishing with extraordinary Player of the Match figures of 4 for 12 in his 3.3 overs. Bhuvneshwar Kumar was equally lethal, returning an astonishing 3 for 5 in his 3 overs with a staggering economy rate of 1.67. The Capitals were ultimately bowled out for 75 in 16.3 overs, setting up a straightforward chase for the visitors.

Chasing a modest 76, Royal Challengers Bengaluru approached the target with sheer aggression, aiming to maximize their Net Run Rate. Although impact player Jacob Bethell fell early after a quickfire 20 off 11 balls to Kyle Jamieson, thanks to T. Natarajan’s excellent catch running back giving DC fans something to cheer about. Devdutt Padikkal walked in and launched an immediate assault. The elegant left-hander smashed an unbeaten 34 off just 13 deliveries, striking at 261.54 with three boundaries and three sixes to ensure the chase was completed at lightning speed.

At the other end, Virat Kohli anchored the chase with a composed, unbeaten 23 from 15 balls, during which the modern master scripted yet another chapter in the record books by becoming the very first batter to breach the mythical 9,000-run mark in IPL history. Guided by Kohli's milestone knock and Padikkal's fireworks, the visitors overhauled the target with an incredible 81 balls to spare, finishing at 77 for 1. This clinical finish not only marked the second fastest victory in the tournament's history but also stands as one of the largest victories ever recorded in terms of balls remaining.
