Murugan Ashwin sprung into limelight when he sparked a bidding war at the 2016 IPL auction where he was bought for Rs. 4.5 crore by Rising Pune Supergiants from a base price of Rs 10 lakhs. He had an impressive outing in the 2015-16 Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy where he finished as Tamil Nadu's second-highest wicket-taker with 10 wickets from six matches with an impressive average 12.70 and economy rate of 5.52. That showing was in fact one of the catalysts that helped Ashwin bag an IPL contract. Since then, he's represented various franchises like Delhi Daredevils, Royal Challengers Bangalore, Punjab Kings and Mumbai Indians. He was bought by Rajasthan Royals at the 2023 IPL auction at his base price of Rs. 20 lakhs. The 32-year-old leg-spinner is an aggressive bowler who has a wide range of variations in his armoury including a lethal googly. He also brings a lot of experience to the table having been a consistent performer in the domestic circuit. He will add depth to the RR spin attack.
