Sam Curran was the surprise weapon through which England beat India in the Test series last year; the all-rounder was named Man of the Series by the Indian team management. He was rewarded with an eye-watering INR 7.2 crore deal by Kings XI Punjab, the third-highest bid in the auctions prior to IPL 2019. The ICC named him one of the top five breakout stars of 2018, as his all-round performances were pivotal in England’s series-winning efforts in Sri Lanka as well. Ahead of the 2020 season, Curran was released by the Kings which landed him in the IPL 2020 Player Auction. The pace bowler who had a base price of 1 cr was finally sold to the Chennai Super Kings for INR 5.5 cr.
