TATA IPL 2026, Match 62: DC vs RR – Match Report

The Delhi Capitals (DC) delivered a fantastic all-round performance to keep their slim playoff hopes alive, successfully chasing down a challenging target of 194 against the Rajasthan Royals (RR) in Match 62 of the TATA IPL 2026. A match that was looking completely in favour of the Royals shifted drastically during the death overs, thanks to a vintage four-wicket haul from Mitchell Starc. In the second innings, a 105-run opening stand between Abishek Porel and KL Rahul ensured the hosts completed the chase with four deliveries to spare.

Delhi Capitals captain Axar Patel won the toss and elected to field first, handing a debut to Tripurana Vijay. Despite losing Yashasvi Jaiswal (12 off 9) early to Lungi Ngidi (2 for 24), the Rajasthan Royals came out firing on all cylinders.

Vaibhav Sooryavanshi unleashed an absolute blitzkrieg in the Powerplay, taking down the Capitals' pacers. He blasted 46 off just 21 deliveries, laced with five boundaries and three maximums, propelling RR to an intimidating 75 for 1 after the first six overs. After Sooryavanshi’s departure, Dhruv Jurel and captain Riyan Parag took total control. Jurel anchored the innings with a gritty 53 off 40 balls (5 fours, 2 sixes), while Parag played a spectacular, fiery knock of 51 off 26 deliveries (3 fours, 5 sixes).

The duo stitched together a crucial 72-run partnership for the third wicket. Sitting pretty at 140 for 2 after 12 overs, the Royals looked poised to post a total well over 220.

However, Mitchell Starc engineered an incredible turnaround. The Australian speedster returned for a magical spell, completely derailing the Royals' momentum. Starc's defining over turned the match on its head, as he claimed three wickets in a single over, removing both Parag and Donovan Ferreira in consecutive deliveries. Supported brilliantly by young Madhav Tiwari, who bowled his variations beautifully to finish with 2 for 27, DC choked the opposition. The Capitals conceded an unbelievable 33 runs in the final six overs, restricting RR to 193 for 8. Starc was the standout bowler, finishing with sensational figures of 4 for 40.

Chasing 194, DC needed a robust start, and openers KL Rahul and Abishek Porel provided exactly that. Rahul survived a massive early scare when he was dropped by Yash Punja, and he fully capitalised on the lifeline.  The opening pair dominated the RR bowling attack, posting 72 runs inside the Powerplay and completely neutralising the threat of the new ball. Porel was the primary aggressor, bringing up a fluid half-century in just 29 deliveries before eventually falling for 51 off 31 balls (7 fours, 1 six) to break the 105-run opening stand.

KL Rahul anchored the chase perfectly from the other end, bringing up his fifty in 34 balls and eventually scoring 56 off 42 deliveries (1 four, 3 sixes).  Despite the rock-solid start, the chase hit a few speed bumps in the middle overs. Jofra Archer (2 for 35) and Brijesh Sharma (2 for 44) bowled spirited spells to pick up regular wickets, removing the likes of Tristan Stubbs (4) and David Miller (9). With DC at 175 for 5 in the 19th over, the match briefly hung in the balance. However, the explosive Ashutosh Sharma stepped out and immediately killed the contest. He faced just five deliveries but smashed a breathtaking, unbeaten 18 (1 four, 2 sixes) to power the Delhi Capitals over the line at 197 for 5 in 19.2 overs.
