TATA IPL 2026, Match 9: GT vs RR – Match Report

The Narendra Modi Stadium witnessed a spectacular contest tonight as the Rajasthan Royals (RR) defeated the Gujarat Titans (GT) by a narrow margin of 6 runs in Match 9 of the TATA IPL 2026. In a match defined by dramatic momentum shifts, explosive batting, and exceptional death bowling, Rajasthan successfully defended a formidable total to secure crucial points on the table. The game went down to the last over as Tushar Deshpande sealed the deal for the visitors.

Chasing a daunting target of 211, the Titans required a steady platform, and Sai Sudharsan provided exactly that. The left-hander anchored the innings beautifully, scoring an elegant 73 off 44 deliveries. He struck nine boundaries and three maximums, keeping the required run rate within reach.

However, the momentum violently shifted during the middle overs when Ravi Bishnoi entered the attack. The Rajasthan leg-spinner and Player of the Match spun a web around the Gujarat batters, claiming a brilliant four-wicket haul (4/41). He consistently broke developing partnerships, halting the Titans' progress just as they looked poised to accelerate.

Despite the middle-order collapse, stand-in captain Rashid Khan—who took the leadership reins after regular skipper Shubman Gill missed the match due to a muscle spasm—kept the home crowd roaring. Rashid bludgeoned a quickfire 24 off 16 balls, alongside Kagiso Rabada, dragging the equation down to exactly 10 runs needed off the final six deliveries.

Royals skipper Riyan Parag entrusted Tushar Deshpande with the high-pressure 20th over. Deshpande executed his plans flawlessly under the Ahmedabad lights, nailing crucial yorkers. With seven runs required off the final two deliveries, Rashid sliced a wide delivery into the deep. Jofra Archer covered immense ground and executed a breathtaking diving catch, dismissing the Afghan all-rounder and effectively sealing the victory for Rajasthan.

Earlier in the evening, Rajasthan Royals won the toss and elected to bat first on a historically batting-friendly surface. The visitors capitalized on the conditions immediately, mounting a fierce assault on the Titans' new-ball attack.

Openers Yashasvi Jaiswal and Vaibhav Sooryavanshi dominated the powerplay, constructing a rapid 70-run partnership inside the first seven overs. Sooryavanshi blasted a quickfire 31 off just 18 balls, while Jaiswal showcased commanding form to register a stroke-filled 55 off 36 deliveries.

When Rashid Khan broke the opening stand, Dhruv Jurel took center stage and engineered the second major momentum shift of the night. Jurel played a match-defining knock, accelerating through the middle and death overs to smash a sensational 75 off just 42 balls. He found the boundary ropes four times and launched five towering sixes into the stands, ensuring Rajasthan capitalized on their explosive start.

For the Gujarat Titans, Kagiso Rabada stood out as the primary strike bowler. The South African speedster utilized his pace and variations effectively to claim 2 for 42 in his four overs. However, the collective batting effort from the Royals ensured they posted an imposing 210/6, a total that ultimately proved just out of the Titans' reach.
