Ishan Kishan appointed interim captain of Sunrisers Hyderabad for TATA IPL 2026

TATA Indian Premier League (IPL) 2016 Champions Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) have appointed Ishan Kishan as the interim captain of the side for the upcoming TATA IPL 2026, in the absence of full-time captain Pat Cummins. The right-arm pacer, who is still recovering from an injury, is set to miss the first few games of the season.

Kishan, who recently played a huge role in India’s historic ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2026 winning campaign, joined SRH after being acquired for INR 11.25 Crore in the Mega Auction ahead of the 2025 season. The 27-year-old left-handed explosive top-order batter scored 354 runs in 14 matches last season at an average of 35.40 and an impressive strike-rate of 152.58. Kishan celebrated his SRH debut by smashing 106* off just 47 deliveries in the team’s 2025 season opener against Rajasthan Royals (RR).

Abhishek Sharma has been appointed as the vice-captain while Kishan leads the side.

SRH will play their first game on the opening night of the 2026 season as they take on defending champions Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) on Saturday, March 28th, in Bengaluru.
