VIVO IPL 2016 FAN PARK INITIATIVE
In an attempt to engage and include cricket fans from all over India during the Indian Premier League, the BCCI introduced a unique concept of the VIVO IPL Fan Parks in 2015.
VIVO IPL Fan Parks are built in specifically selected open arenas and stadiums throughout the country in order to provide a stadium-like experience to the residents of the cities that do not host the IPL matches. Giant screens are set up at these venues for public screening of the IPL matches over the weekends. Fan Parks are free for all to attend and special arrangements are made to make it an event that is women and children friendly.
In order to make it a complete stadium experience, besides the live screening of matches, the Fan Parks also include MCs, music, DJs, concession and merchandising stalls, and activations with participation from IPL’s official sponsors.
Fan Parks of VIVO IPL 2016
Encouraged and motivated by the success of the Fan Parks in the 2015 season, the BCCI has decided to spread the reach of the concept to 34 cities for VIVO IPL 2016. The first VIVO IPL Fan Park of the 2016 season will be in operation for April 9 and 10 in Amritsar, Bilaspur, Meerut and Baroda. The complete list of venues and schedule of the IPL Fan Parks in 2016 has been attached below.
Fan Parks this year will not only expand in their reach but also their scale, as each venue will be equipped to accommodate crowds of up to 10,000 fans per match day. To make the IPL more inclusive towards the visitors of Fan Parks, bigger fan engagement initiatives will be undertaken with the use of IPL’s vast social media reach. Hence, the fans experiencing IPL from Fan Parks will be as gripped in the cricket fever as the ones watching it live at the hosting stadiums.
Some of the Fan Engagement initiatives planned for VIVO IPL Fan Parks, 2016 are:
Fan Machaye Shor (Loudest Fan): In this fun activity, fans get to breach decibel records on a sound meter to win the loudest fan title.
Virtual Reality Cricket Experience: Transporting the fan inside a stadium with a bat in his hands to try winning the game of a super over.
Taking the Fan Park To The Stadium And Around The World
This year, every VIVO IPL Fan Park will capture the fans’ euphoria and share individual Fan Park Montage with the Central Broadcast Team during every match. This content will be aired on the in-stadia LED screen and world feed, thus transporting local fans to the stadium with MC and commentator mentions.
The VIVO IPL Fan Parks this year will also move towards adapting environment-friendly steps. The branding at the Fan Park venues will be printed on more expensive cloth fabric that can be reused at multiple venues, replacing the flex branding that has to be recreated for each centre. We undertake this initiative with a vision of leading the way for other organizations to follow.
As Important As The League Itself:
The expanded structure and reach of VIVO IPL Fan Parks this year means the logistical and management challenges will swell as well. In order to cope with these challenges and to ensure flawless and successful implementation of VIVO IPL Fan Parks, the BCCI has planned to conduct what is being touted as the industry’s first ‘Mock Drill’ of the concept in its entirety. This will enable us in providing a uniformed experience to the VIVO IPL Fan Parks visitors in all 34 centres.
For the implementation part, the VIVO IPL Fan Parks will involve over 550 personnel working on them over the period of the tournament, with an endeavour to take us a step closer to the lofty standards of our international counterparts.
The IPL’s marketing department will be kept busy as well, with BTL promotion activity across the 34 cities starting one week prior to their respective Fan Park weekends. A buzz will be created around the Fan Parks to lure more and more people into this unique experience.
In an attempt to truly make the VIVO IPL Fan Parks a family event, high measures have been taken to provide the visitors with an excellent standard of hygiene and safety.
The IPL Fan Parks is a concept close to the heart of the organization. It is our attempt to act on our unwritten motto, ‘When you cannot reach the stadium, the stadium comes to you’. It is our way of telling the cricket fans in India that their unconditional love and constant support for the sport is not only acknowledged but highly valued. This is our small way of thanking all the cricket fans in India.

Fan Parks IPL 2015
The Fan Parks were a massive success in its inaugural year, and were created in 15 cities across the country. Over 1.5 lakh cricket fans attended the Fan Parks over the duration of the tournament with the footfall for each city over a two-day weekend averaging between 5000 and 8000 fans per day.
The IPL 2015 final played between Mumbai Indians and Chennai Super Kings at the Eden Gardens in Kolkata on May 24, 2015, was viewed by over 15,000 fans in the IPL Fan Park at Shree Chhatrapati Shivaji Stadium in Nashik.
