What
Defending champions Mumbai Indians clash with Sunrisers Hyderabad in Match 37 of VIVO IPL 2016.
MI began slowly but got some momentum going. However, since their win against Rising Pune Supergiants – their third in a row - on Maharashtra Day, Rohit Sharma and company have had a break. They now need to start all over again, not only because of the 5-day break they’ve had, but also because they will no longer play their home matches at the Wankhede Stadium, but instead at their adopted home ground. The team has spent a couple of days in Visakhapatnam, trying to get acclimatised to the new conditions. The pitches will be different, the weather conditions will be different, and there will definitely be fewer blue flags in the stands. MI will need to get used to these and a lot many other factors in their bid to make it to the Playoffs.
Sunrisers Hyderabad’s campaign has been somewhat similar to that of MI’s. They started the season with defeats in their first two matches, before hitting their straps and winning three on the trot. Since their defeat at home to Rising Pune Supergiants, the Sunrisers have picked up wins against two formidable opponents – RCB & GL, and will be keen to keep that momentum with them.

The Protagonists
For MI, Rohit Sharma and Mitchell McClenaghan are the key characters with bat and ball respectively. Both the players are impact players; if Rohit scores runs, on most days MI will win. McClenaghan does a similar job with the ball; he bowls with pace, can bowl the heavy ball and is capable of striking big hauls.
David Warner is the most established match-winner in the SRH line-up. The left-hander can destroy opponents in a matter of a few minutes. On the batting front, he has a very able support cast – namely Shikhar Dhawan, Kane Williamson and Yuvraj Singh. The team has a very potent bowling attack; Bhuvneshwar Kumar has been very good upfront with the new ball, while Mustafizur Rahman and Ashish Nehra have troubled batsmen whenever they’ve been handed the ball.
Head to Head
The head-to-head between Mumbai Indians and Sunrisers Hyderabad is slightly swayed in favour of the former, who’ve won 4 of the 7 matches between the two teams. When these two teams met earlier this season, Sunrisers chased down 142 to open their account in VIVO IPL 2016.
Trivia
David Warner’s 91 against the Kolkata Knight Riders is the highest individual score in IPL matches played at Visakhapatnam.
In their only previous IPL outing at the ADA-VDCA Stadium in Visakhapatnam, the Mumbai Indians defeated the erstwhile Hyderabad franchise – Deccan Chargers – by 5 wickets. Rohit Sharma, now the MI captain, was declared Man of the Match for his match-winning 73 (50 balls).
Sunrisers Hyderabad’s bowlers have picked up 38 wickets so far in the season; their spin bowlers have contributed only 2 of those wickets.
What Next
MI will be seen in action next on May 11, when they clash with Royal Challengers Bangalore in Bengaluru. SRH meanwhile stay put in Visakhapatnam for their away clash against Rising Pune Supergiants, scheduled to be played on May 10.
