Preview: M54 - RCB vs SRH

Sunrisers Hyderabad have one last opportunity to control their future when they take on Royal Challengers Bangalore in Match 54

Sunrisers Hyderabad have one last opportunity to control their future when they take on Royal Challengers Bangalore in Match 54 of VIVO IPL 2019. SRH have 12 points, and given their healthy net run rate of 0.653, a win against RCB will nearly secure them a playoff spot.

RCB, who’ve had yet another disastrous season, will want to end their season with a win. Virat Kohli and company have won only four of their 13 matches; losing to the Sunrisers will confirm them to be the wooden spoon holders.

Expect a weakened Sunrisers side to play hard and scrap for the two points, while the Royal Challengers – who’ve got little to lose – can be expected to give some of the players on the bench a chance to showcase their skills.

Previous Match XIs:

Royal Challengers Bangalore: Virat Kohli, AB de Villiers, Marcus Stoinis, Heinrich Klaasen, Gurkeerat Singh, Parthiv Patel, Pawan Negi, Umesh Yadav, Navdeep Saini, Yuzvendra Chahal, Kulwant Khejroliya.

Sunrisers Hyderabad: Martin Guptill, Wriddhiman Saha, Manish Pandey, Kane Williamson, Vijay Shankar, Abhishek Sharma, Mohammad Nabi, Rashid Khan, Bhuvneshwar Kumar, Khaleel Ahmed, Basil Thampi.

Virat Kohli, AB de Villiers and Parthiv Patel are the mainstays in the RCB batting line-up; between them, they have scored nearly 65% of the team’s runs. Though both Kohli and de Villiers have scored in excess of 400 runs – a honest assessment would be that they’ve had a middling season, as compared to spectacular years they’ve had in the past. Both batsmen will want to finish off the season with one of their signature match-winning performances. Parthiv needs 23 runs more to make this most successful IPL season; the left-hander has been impressive not only with his consistency, but also for the freedom with which he has batted at the top of the innings.

Manish Pandey will be the one man to watch out for in the Sunrisers batting line-up. The 29-year old has been in scintillating form since regaining his place in the playing XI; he has made scores of 83*, 61, 36 and 71* in his last four innings. Manish also has this reputation of being a big-match player, and he will be keen to put up a good show in front of his home fans.

On the bowling front, the contest between the two leg-spinners will be exciting to watch. With 17 wickets, Yuzvendra Chahal is RCB’s highest wicket-taker this season, while Rashid Khan has been Sunrisers’ best bowler right through the competition. Chahal is one of the few bowlers who has cracked the code to succeed at the M Chinnaswamy Stadium; will Rashid be able to use his bagful of tricks to keep the lid on the RCB batsmen?
