Royal Challengers Bangalore, still looking for their first win of VIVO IPL 2019, will take on Kings XI Punjab in Match 28.
RCB have had a five-day break since the last of their six losses; that is plenty of time for the players and team management to introspect and chart out plans to put their dwindling campaign back on track.
Kings XI Punjab will still be reeling from their loss to Mumbai Indians on Wednesday night. If only they had done a couple of the small things better – like keeping the momentum after a rollicking opening partnership, holding onto a half-chance at a crucial juncture, or getting Ankit Rajpoot to take the field much before the final over – they could have very well walked away victors. Nonetheless, KXIP still have four wins from their seven matches and will want to preserve their undefeated record at home.

Previous Match XIs:
Kings XI Punjab:Chris Gayle, KL Rahul, David Miller, Karun Nair, Sam Curran, Mandeep Singh, Sarfaraz Khan, Ravichandran Ashwin, Hardus Viljoen, Ankit Rajpoot, Mohammed Shami.
Royal Challengers Bangalore:Parthiv Patel, Virat Kohli, AB de Villiers, Marcus Stoinis, Moeen Ali, Akshdeep Nath, Pawan Negi, Tim Southee, Mohammed Siraj, Yuzvendra Chahal, Navdeep Saini.
It augurs well for Kings XI Punjab that both Chris Gayle and KL Rahul are hitting the ball well. While Gayle has batted like the Gayle of old – taking on the bowlers early on, Rahul has applied himself well and now has three half-centuries and a century in his last five innings. The pair were involved in a 116-run opening stand against the Mumbai Indians, and KXIP will want more of the same from them in the remaining matches.
Ravichandran Ashwin’s bowling, as well as his captaincy, has been impressive, while Mohammed Shamihas turned around his season after a poor start.
Where RCB are concerned, the onus will be on Virat Kohli and AB de Villiers to deliver a performance that can help them find that elusive first win. RCB need one of their pacers to produce a stinging performance; Umesh Yadav deserves a second go and should be backed to deliver the goods like he did last season.
