Behind closed doors in Mumbai Indians’ team room, former speedster and present bowling coach Shane Bond shares a lot of time discussing tactics with Lasith Malinga and Jasprit Bumrah. But in the confines of four walls, the duo can only watch videos and formulate plans, it is the cricket field where the two transform themselves into menacing toe crushers.
The two-stage process one in the team room and the other out in the field makes them competent to bowl at any stage of tournament. If Lasith Malinga bowls in the Powerplay, Bumrah is summoned in the crucial Super Over, where six balls decided the fate of the game.
Bumrah’s phenomenal last over handed the victory in Rajkot and in Mumbai, the home team sealed a playoff berth with captain Rohit Sharma anchoring the chase.
