17 Apr, 2026
The Gujarat Titans executed a highly composed run chase to defeat the Kolkata Knight Riders by five wickets in Match 25 of the TATA IPL 2026. In a high-scoring thriller hosted at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad, Gujarat captain Shubman Gill delivered a batting masterclass, compiling a scintillating 86 off 50 deliveries to successfully chase down a target of 181 with just two balls to spare. The victory marks the Titans' third consecutive win of the season, while the Knight Riders’ frustrating winless streak extends to six matches.
Kolkata Knight Riders captain Ajinkya Rahane won the toss and elected to bat first, hoping to set a daunting total. However, the Gujarat Titans’ pace battery immediately put the visitors on the back foot. Mohammed Siraj delivered a clinical spell with the new ball, setting the tone instantly by dismissing Rahane for a golden duck on the very first delivery the KKR skipper faced. Siraj severely restricted the run flow throughout his spell, finishing with highly economical figures of 2 for 23 in his four overs.
Operating from the other end, Kagiso Rabada injected raw pace into the innings. Rabada ripped through the top order, dismissing the dangerous Angkrish Raghuvanshi and ensuring Kolkata crawled to a heavily subdued 37 for 3 at the end of the Powerplay. The South African quick finished with his best figures in Gujarat colours, returning an exceptional 3 for 29.

Reeling under extreme pressure, the Knight Riders desperately needed a rescue mission. Cameron Green answered the call, orchestrating a fighting innings to drag his side back into the contest. Riding his luck after being dropped twice early in his knock, Green fully capitalised on the extra lives.
The powerful Australian systematically accelerated through the middle overs alongside Rovman Powell, who contributed a valuable 27 off 20 balls. Green showcased brutal ball-striking that completely shifted the momentum. He surged past his half-century and eventually finished with a spectacular 79 off 55 deliveries, laced with seven boundaries and four towering sixes. Despite Green's heroics propelling the visitors past the 140-run mark by the 15th over, the Titans' bowlers dragged the game back in the death overs. Ashok Sharma picked up two crucial wickets (2 for 45), and the Knight Riders were ultimately bowled out for exactly 180 on the final delivery of the innings.

Faced with a tricky target of 181, the Gujarat Titans commenced their chase with ruthless aggression. Jos Buttler set the tempo early, unleashing a blistering 25 off merely 15 balls. Striking at 166.67, the Englishman heavily attacked the pacers before Varun Chakaravarthy outsmarted him to provide the visitors with a vital breakthrough.
Despite Buttler's dismissal, the Titans entirely dominated the first six overs, finishing the Powerplay at a commanding 71 for 1. Sai Sudharsan maintained the momentum with a quick-fire 22 off 16 balls, sharing a rapid 50-run stand with his captain off just 26 deliveries to put the hosts well ahead of the required run rate.
As the spin duo of Varun Chakaravarthy (2 for 34) and Sunil Narine (1 for 28) attempted to squeeze the middle overs, Shubman Gill showcased absolute pedigree. The Titans skipper anchored the innings flawlessly, rotating the strike while punishing the bad deliveries with extreme elegance.
Gill cruised to a magnificent half-century in just 27 balls. While wickets occasionally tumbled at the other end, including Washington Sundar falling to Chakaravarthy for 13, Gill stood resolute. His sensational 86 featured eight boundaries and four maximums, played at a commanding strike rate of 172.00.

By the time Vaibhav Arora finally dismissed Gill in the 17th over, the Titans were just 23 runs away from the target. A few late jitters emerged when Ramandeep Singh removed Glenn Phillips (19 off 16), but the experienced Rahul Tewatia and Shahrukh Khan calmly navigated the final over, helping their side cross the finish line at 181 for 5 in 19.4 overs.
Shubman Gill rightfully claimed the honours for his match-winning 86 (50). His innings was the definitive backbone of the chase, balancing early aggression with middle-over composure to completely neutralise the spin threat.
