One of the most exciting opening batsmen today, Tillakaratne Dilshan was able to breathe new life into his career thanks to the IPL. After taking on additional responsibilities for the Delhi Daredevils in Virender Sehwag's absence in IPL 2009, Dilshan showed that he could play the attacking game at the top of the order with panache. Dilshan has been credited with creating a new shot – a scoop over the wicketkeeper's head – commonly referred to as the ‘Dilscoop’. A great runner between the wickets, he is also among the world's best fielders and bowls handy off-spin. After three seasons with the Delhi Daredevils, Dilshan was signed by the Royal Challengers Bangalore for USD 650,000 at the IPL Player Auction 2011. He is one half of an explosive opening pair with Chris Gayle.
