Playoffs
Mahela Jayawardene (Kochi Tuskers Kerala)
The playoffs are designed such that the top two teams have an advantage. Even if they lose a game, they have an opportunity to play the final if they win the eliminator. I like this format because it rewards the teams who have been consistent right through the tournament.
Shane Warne (Rajasthan Royals)
I quite like it. I think it’s a pretty good format. This format gives an advantage to the teams finishing first and second and hence it makes the competition even fiercer.
Virender Sehwag (Delhi Daredevils)
It’s good that we have a different format. It gives the top two teams a second chance to play in the final. I really like this format.
Gautam Gambhir (Kolkata Knight Riders)
I think it’s pretty exciting. It gives the extra opportunity to the team at the second spot to qualify for the final despite losing one game. So it’s going to be very interesting.
Daniel Vettori (Royal Challengers Bangalore)
I think it’s one of those things that you wait till the end and see if it works or not. Finishing in the top two will be advantageous in this format and that will be a big motivating factor. But we have seen in this tournament anyone can beat anyone. So even the third and fourth teams fancy their chances if they win in the eliminator. There’s no clear favourite and the competition is very stiff.
