Dennis Lillee joins the Daredevils
18th April 2008The Delhi Daredevils have something more to boast about.
The side led by the flamboyant Virender Sehwag and comprising the T20 format ace Gautam Gambhir, fast bowlers Glenn McGrath and Mohammad Asif have another member in their ranks to flaunt – Australian bowling legend Dennis Lillee.
The ace bowler will take over as advisor of the sports management of GMR Holdings which owns the Delhi Daredevils franchise.
"It feels great to be a part of Delhi Daredevils. I’ve known many of the young players in the squad. While players like Glenn McGrath are legends by their own right, I am looking forward to work with upcoming talents such as Pradeep Sangwan and Yo Mahesh," said Lillee.
When asked whether Lillee's presence would prove an impetus for the Delhi Daredevils, Sehwag said that the Australian's presence would inspire his side to do well in the Twenty20 tournament. "Lillee has been a childhood idol and an inspiration to countless cricketers, including me. His do-or-die attitude, fierce determination and the way he staged his comeback are part of cricketing lore. His presence in the dressing room will no doubt bolster our resolve to win, " said the Nawab of Najafgarh.
Dennis Lillee was one of the most successful bowlers of Australia and has clinched more than 400 wickets in both Test and ODI formats of the game. He was well known for his sheer pace bowling on the field.
Lillee currently runs the MRF Pace Academy at Chennai.
