Must continue our IPL act: Goswami
28th May 2008
Bangalore Royal Challengers' Shreevats Goswami believes that youngsters should continue to keep up with their performances at the DLF Indian Premier League (IPL) and take them into upcoming domestic tournaments.
Goswami deems the Twenty20 championship as an "amazing experience" for all the Under-19 cricketers, like him, who are a part of the IPL.
The 19-year-old was also thrilled about sharing the dressing room with cricket stalwarts from around the world. "Getting to learn so many things from them is a tremendous thing for us," he was quoted as saying.
One experience the young gun will treasure is that of learning the tricks of wicketkeeping from his Royal Challengers' teammate Mark Boucher of South Africa.
"Sharing the side with Mark Boucher is a great advantage for me. He has been giving tips," said the diminutive lad.
Goswami, who was a member of the ICC Under-19 World Cup winning Indian team early this year, has played only three games so far for his side and scored 62 runs. He did not regret the fact that he got very few chances to prove his mettle. Instead, he believes that he should make the most of all the opportunities he gets.
"Coming from the Under-19 team and getting to know the great players is going to help us in our near future. We play tournaments like Ranji Trophy while representing our states, this experience will come handy then. We have to carry forward our games to these domestic tourneys," said the left-handed batsman.
The southpaw denies feeling anxious while performing in a tournament of such a magnitude.
"There is not much pressure but it is exciting. As youngsters we need more opportunities... We have to get out there and perform which can be a bonus for us, if we don't perform then our opportunity is lost," he stated reckoning that they cannot afford to lose their nerves.
Like copious other aspirants, Goswami also wants to do well for the country.
