Until their previous match, against the Delhi Daredevils, the big area of concern for the Sunrisers Hyderabad had been the lack of runs from their top order. However, Shikhar Dhawan, Aaron Finch and David Warner came good in the previous match – and in spectacular fashion too – adding 179 runs together. Given that they are the three biggest names in the batting line-up, it is imperative that they keep at the task of scoring big runs.
Either Brendon McCullum or Dwayne Smith – who open for the Chennai Super Kings – have top-scored for their team in three of the team’s four matches so far this season. Both batsmen can pack a punch in their strokes and aren’t afraid to take the aerial route. Given how quickly they can score runs, and how quickly they can deflate the opposition, the onus will be on them to get the runs.
Notes from the Previous match
Sunrisers Hyderabad v Delhi Daredevils: The foremost lesson from the previous match must have been that runs from the top order, more often than not, result in wins. A partnership of 56 by the opening pair, followed by a stand of 128 by the next duo, meant SRH maintained the momentum right through the innings. The team finished off the innings in a brilliant manner – scoring 85 runs in the last six overs. Among areas to work upon, SRH will have realised the need to cut short the singles conceded (54) and the need to score direct hits. There were two occasions when opposition batsmen would have been caught short of their ground had the SRH fielders hit the stumps directly. Chennai Super Kings v Mumbai Indians: “Believe in yourself” is the one lessons CSK would have taken from their previous match. Despite MI going great guns at 109 for two, CSK forced their way back into the match once they found an opening. There should also have been a pat on the back for the bowlers from coach Stephen Fleming; it was the first time in the season that a team had not bowled a single extra delivery (no-ball or wide).
Chennai Super Kings have a 100 percent record against the Sunrisers Hyderabad having defeated them twice in two matches. Trivia
SRH have conceded 20 sixes this season, half of which have been scored off Amit Mishra. The leg-spinner has been hit for 10 sixes and two boundaries in the 12 overs he has bowled so far in Pepsi IPL 2014. What Next
