Preview : Match 68 – SRH vs RR
Can RR do enough to finish among top two?
Sunrisers Hyderabad and Rajasthan Royals go head to head in Match 68 of the Pepsi IPL 2013. Rajasthan Royals have 20 points from ten wins and are through to the Pepsi IPL 2013 Playoffs while Sunrisers Hyderabad need to win both their remaining matches to stay in contention for a place in the Playoffs.
Sunrisers Hyderabad held the reins for most part of their previous match against the Mumbai Indians. At the start of the 17th over, Kieron Pollard exploded and took the match away in the matter of a few deliveries. It will be interesting to see if SRH have recovered from the mauling they received in the final moments of that match.
Rajasthan Royals meanwhile have had a tough time both on and off the field recently. Though their top order was blown away in the match against the Mumbai Indians, RR recovered through their lower middle order to put up a brave face in their chase of 167. RR will know there is an incentive on finishing in the top two and will not only eye the two points in this match but also a convincing win to boost their net run rate.

The home team’s batting, which depicted lean form for the better part of the season showed teeth when they took on Mumbai Indians in their last encounter. Parthiv Patel and Shikar Dhawan have shown hunger for runs and with Hanuma Vihari and Cameroon White also getting amongst runs, Thisara Perera and Darren Sammy can be expected to come and explode to ensure a healthy total on board
Rajasthan Royals have chased down some big totals and even in their chase of Mumbai’s 166, Stuart Binny, from the middle and Brad Hodge from the tail, showed that their batting does go deep. The top five, Ajinkya Rahane, Rahul Dravid, Sanju Viswanadh, Shane Watson and Binny have collected runs to carry confidence going into the encounter.
However, SRH hold the edge in the bowling department with Dale Steyn, Ishant Sharma and Amit Mishra capable of running through sides. Add to the trio, Darren Sammy and Thisara Perera, and it can be said that RR will be challenged and tested.
RR’s bowling will rest on Faulkner, the reliable Watson, who has time and again proved to be the bowler to break partnerships, Binny and Kevon Cooper.
In the only previous meeting between the Sunrisers Hyderabad and Rajasthan Royals – on 27 April 2013 in Jaipur – James Faulkner’s five-wicket burst helped the hosts restrict SRH to 144 for nine. Shane Watson 53-ball unbeaten 98 then helped RR chase down the target in 17.5 overs, in the process registering a thumping eight-wicket victory.
The Rajasthan Royals have won two of their three matches at the Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium so far.
Sunrisers Hyderabad have the lowest scoring rate (7.02) and the lowest economy rate (7.22) of all teams this season.
With this tie, the Rajasthan Royals complete their league fixture of Pepsi IPL 2013. Though they have already qualified for the Pepsi IPL 2013 Playoffs, they will only know their opponent in the Playoff and the date of their Playoff match depending on how teams finish at the end of the regular season. Sunrisers Hyderabad meanwhile stay put at home to play their final league fixture of the season; squaring off against the Kolkata Knight Riders on May 19.
