Defending champions Kolkata Knight Riders take on an upbeat Sunrisers Hyderabad in match 17 of Pepsi IPL 2013.
The defending champions have been slow to get off the blocks; though they won their opening match against the Delhi Daredevils, they came second best in their matches against the Rajasthan Royals and Royal Challengers Bangalore.
Sunrisers Hyderabad have won three off their four matches and sit among the top four teams in the table. In their most recent outing, they held their nerve to win a low-scoring contest against the Delhi Daredevils by three wickets.

Batting in T20 isn’t as it once was. When batsmen would go hard at the ball from the word go. These days we see batsmen willing to spend time in the middle before opening up their shoulders. KKR will expect skipper Gautam Gambhir or Jacques Kallis to hold fort at one end allowing the other stroke-makers in the team to go after the bowling. Gambhir and Kallis themselves are capable of playing the big shots, and it would be immensely helpful to the team if either of them bat to the end.
The Sunrisers will expect the Indian batsmen in the line-up to bat around Cameron White and Thisara Perera, both of who are capable of causing a lot of damage.
On the bowling front, how the KKR batsmen handle Dale Steyn’s four overs and how many they score off those four overs will have a definite bearing on the match. The match also promises an interesting battle between the two spinners – Amit Mishra and Sunil Narine, both of who have been in outstanding form recently.
The Kolkata Knight Riders will be meeting the Hyderabad franchise for the first time in their new avatar as Sunrisers Hyderabad.
The defending champions will have fond memories of playing against the Hyderabad franchise at home, for they have won three of the four meetings.
In the Sunrisers’ previous match against the Delhi Daredevils, Dale Steyn bowled 17 dot balls in his four-over spell.
The Kolkata Knight Riders have conceded the highest percentage of runs through boundaries in Pepsi IPL 2013; 60.93% of the runs they have conceded this season have been through fours and sixes.
Pune Warriors India have conceded the fewest sixes in Pepsi IPL 2013 – three.
Kolkata Knight Riders’ next fixture will be against the Kings XI Punjab on April 16, while the Sunrisers Hyderabad will head to Pune for their return clash against Pune Warriors India on April 17.
Match 16 of the Pepsi IPL 2013 is a battle between the two southern giants, two-time champions Chennai Super Kings locking horns with the Royal Challengers Bangalore.
After losing their opening fixture of the season to the Mumbai Indians, the Chennai Super Kings got their first points on the table through a stunning 10-wicket win over the Kings XI Punjab. Royal Challengers Bangalore meanwhile are sitting pretty with three wins from their first four matches – their only defeat coming in the Super Over against Sunrisers Hyderabad.
While the Royal Challengers Bangalore will want to win this contest and keep their place at the top of the table, the hosts will – as they have done so often in the past – want to make the best of playing at home.

Expect a lot of fireworks in this match, for it features some of the most powerful strikers of the cricket ball. If hosts CSK have Michael Hussey, Suresh Raina and MS Dhoni in their line-up, RCB have the fearsome duo of Chris Gayle and Virat Kohli.
On the bowling front, keep an eye on the spin duo of Muttiah Muralitharan and R Ashwin. With the pitch at Chennai more than likely to aid spin bowlers, the four overs of the two off-spinners could decisively swing the balance of the match.
The Chennai Super Kings have a clear edge when it comes to their matches against the Royal Challengers Bangalore. Not only have CSK won 7 of their 12 matches against RCB (one of which was abandoned by poor weather), they’ve also won four of their five home matches.
Last season, CSK won a high-scoring thriller at home off the very last ball, while the match in Bengaluru had to be abandoned after the toss after rains set in and rendered the ground unplayable.
This match will feature the top two six-hitters in the IPL. RCB’s Chris Gayle tops the list with 143 sixes, while CSK’s Suresh Raina comes a distant second with 97 sixes.
No bowler has dismissed RCB’s Chris Gayle more often than CSK’s R Ashwin. The CSK off-spinner has dismissed the Jamaican on three occasions for scores of 0, 7 & 8.
The Chennai Super Kings will stay put at home after this fixture. Their next match is against Pune Warriors India on April 15. RCB meanwhile head back home to host the Delhi Daredevils on April 16.
