Deccan Chargers begin their IPL 2012 campaign with a fixture against defending champs Chennai Super Kings. DC – winners in 2009 – finished seventh in the previous season, and they will be hoping for a much-improved performance this time around.
Chennai Super Kings, meanwhile, will want to recover quickly from the early setback of losing to the Mumbai Indians in the opening fixture of the season.

ACA-VDCA Stadium, Visakhapatnam
In the absence of regular captain Kumar Sangakkara, Deccan Chargers bosses have handed the reins of the team to Cameron White. It’s a huge responsibility, considering White was recently relieved of the captaincy of the Australian Twenty20 team for lack of form. There’s no doubting that White is an exciting player – and one of the most-experienced in the format; he will need to raise his game by several notches and lead from the front.
White will also be hoping his fellow Australians Daniel Christian and Daniel Harris can deliver the goods. Also look out for Dale Steyn, who will relish the pace and bounce the surface at the ACA-VDCA Stadium offers.
In the CSK colours, look out for the Indian trio of Suresh Raina, MS Dhoni and million-dollar man Ravindra Jadeja. While Raina did score 36 in the game against MI, he wasn’t close to the form that has made him the leading run-getter in the IPL. He will want to hit form quickly, as will Dhoni and Jadeja who didn’t score too many in that opening fixture. Previous Meetings
Deccan Chargers and Chennai Super Kings have shared the spoils evenly in the eight previous meetings between them. In the last two meetings, though, CSK have come out winners, beating their opponents by fair margins on both occasions.
• The ACA-VDCA Stadium in Visakhapatnam will become the 24th venue to host an IPL game.
• Chennai Super Kings’ Suresh Raina and S Badrinath share the record for most appearances in the IPL; they’ve appeared in each one of CSK’s 63 matches.
Deccan Chargers will remain in the coastal city of Visakhapatnam following this fixture. They host Mumbai Indians in their second fixture on April 9, while Chennai Super Kings will travel to the national capital to take on Delhi Daredevils on April 10.
Royal Challengers Bangalore launch their IPL 2012 campaign with a home fixture against Delhi Daredevils.
RCB have been one of the most consistent teams in the league; they finished as runners-up in the 2011 season and were losing semi-finalists in IPL 2010. Daniel Vettori’s boys will want to finish this tournament with some silverware to show for their good work. Delhi Daredevils, meanwhile, will want to build on the solid start to the tournament gained by beating Kolkata Knight Riders in their opening fixture.

Watch out for the ‘Gayle Storm’, threatening to hit the Delhi Daredevils. The Jamaican has been in devastating form with the bat in the last 24 months; he single-handedly took RCB to the final of IPL 2011 and was RCB’s leading run-getter at CLT20 2011 too.
Look out for a much-improved Virat Kohli too; the Delhi-lad – seen as captain material by the RCB bosses – has been in great form with the bat in all formats of the game in the last 12 months.
A lot rests on Delhi Daredevils skipper Virender Sehwag’s shoulders, especially since his team will be missing several of their experienced batsmen. Also look out for Morne Morkel who was impressive in DD’s opening match against KKR – especially given the surface they are likely to encounter at Bangalore.
Though this will be an away fixture for Delhi Daredevils, they will be buoyed by the fact that they have an outstanding record against Royal Challengers Bangalore. Of the seven previous meetings between the two teams, DD have won five, while RCB have managed only two victories. Trivia
• Royal Challengers Bangalore’s Chris Gayle won the Orange Cap (presented to the leading run-getter in the league) in IPL 2011.

• Virender Sehwag’s strike-rate in run-chases in the IPL is an incredible 184.07. What next?
Both teams will hit the field next in three days’ time. Royal Challengers Bangalore will host Kolkata Knight Riders in the 4 p.m. game on April 10, while Delhi Daredevils will host Chennai Super Kings in the 8 p.m. game on the same day.
