Preview: Match 5 – RCB v DD
Can RCB keep the upbeat Daredevils down?
What
Royal Challengers Bangalore launch their IPL 2012 campaign with a home fixture against Delhi Daredevils.
RCB have been one of the most consistent teams in the league; they finished as runners-up in the 2011 season and were losing semi-finalists in IPL 2010. Daniel Vettori’s boys will want to finish this tournament with some silverware to show for their good work. Delhi Daredevils, meanwhile, will want to build on the solid start to the tournament gained by beating Kolkata Knight Riders in their opening fixture.
When
Saturday, April 7, 2011, 04:00 p.m.
Where
M Chinnaswamy Stadium, Bangalore
The Protagonists
Watch out for the ‘Gayle Storm’, threatening to hit the Delhi Daredevils. The Jamaican has been in devastating form with the bat in the last 24 months; he single-handedly took RCB to the final of IPL 2011 and was RCB’s leading run-getter at CLT20 2011 too.
Look out for a much-improved Virat Kohli too; the Delhi-lad – seen as captain material by the RCB bosses – has been in great form with the bat in all formats of the game in the last 12 months.
A lot rests on Delhi Daredevils skipper Virender Sehwag’s shoulders, especially since his team will be missing several of their experienced batsmen. Also look out for Morne Morkel who was impressive in DD’s opening match against KKR – especially given the surface they are likely to encounter at Bangalore.
Previous Meetings
Though this will be an away fixture for Delhi Daredevils, they will be buoyed by the fact that they have an outstanding record against Royal Challengers Bangalore. Of the seven previous meetings between the two teams, DD have won five, while RCB have managed only two victories.
