The Mumbai Indians have signed West Indies all-rounder Dwayne Smith as a replacement for Mitchell Johnson. The Australian fast bowler was ruled out of IPL 2012 by Cricket Australia due to injury. Johnson underwent a surgery on his toe in November 2011 and is yet to recover from it.
Dwayne Smith is expected to join MI on Thursday, May 3, 2012. Smith played five matches for MI in the IPL 2008, scoring 45 runs and taking five wickets. In IPL 2009, he moved to the Deccan Chargers, for whom he scored 215 runs and picked up a wicket in eight matches.
The all-rounder’s good form led to the Mumbai franchise including him in their squad. Smith scored 165 runs at a strike rate of 136 in the Caribbean Twenty20 competition. While playing for the Khulna Royal Bengals in the Bangladesh Premier League, Smith made 346 runs at 137.30.
