CSK all-rounder admits his team needed to bounce back against DC
DC all-rounder says 190-plus target was gettable
Playing their first match of IPL 2012, the Deccan Chargers suffered another defeat at home; although this loss came in the picturesque city of Vizag. The Chargers appeared to have control of proceedings when they removed Ravindra Jadeja to reduce the Chennai Super Kings to 147 for six in 17.2 overs. But then, they conceded 46 runs off the last 16 deliveries to allow CSK to post a mammoth score of 193. In reply, DC were bowled out for a paltry 119 runs.
Deccan Chargers’ all-rounder Daniel Christian, nevertheless, remained convinced that the lack of partnerships played a bigger role in the home side’s defeat. He spoke to iplt20.com following the match.
You conceded too many runs at the end while bowling; was that the difference?
Probably that was the difference in the end, and just lack of getting a good partnership together at the start. It was a pretty good wicket and it is a small ground. If we would have got off to a good start, 190 was getable.
You struggled against the spinners, especially against Ravindra Jadeja. Was there a lot of turn?
Yeah, true. He [Jadeja] did bowl well. All their bowlers bowled well. We just couldn’t get that [game-changing] partnership together. If we had been able to do that, it would have made life a lot easier.
You couldn’t get that partnership, but was there anything in the wicket which caused your downfall?
Not really. I don’t think so. It was just poor batting on our part. Their guys hit sixes and we all got caught on the boundary. It was just one of those nights.
You’ll didn’t have a great run last year in the IPL. Was there any specific area that you guys focused on or spoke about heading into this year’s tournament?
Just consistency, I think. Last year, we played some really good games of cricket and then we had some poor ones – just like tonight. The key for us is to try and bring them together, have our bad games closer to our good ones rather than at either end of the spectrum.
Vizag became the latest edition to the IPL’s list of venues. Have you had a chance to experience much of it?
Yeah, we had a practice game here the other night. Like I said, it was a really good wicket; really good ground. We are looking forward to playing here again against Mumbai.
