I am living my dream: Kevon Cooper
RR all-rounder thrilled with his performance in IPL debut
Rajasthan Royals’ Kevon Cooper impressed with an all-round performance in his debut IPL match against the Kings XI Punjab. The 23-year-old Trinidadian hit a six and a four in his three-ball 11*, and later claimed a four-for in addition to taking two catches and affecting a run out.
After RR opened their account with a win in IPL 2012, Cooper spoke to iplt20.com about living his dream.
Excerpts from his brief post-match chat with iplt20.com:
On claiming four wickets in his first IPL outing
Yes it is a good [start for the] season for me, first IPL four wickets, two catches and one run out. I had a good day, [I am] feeling very happy. It is my dream come true to play in the IPL and I am living my dream right now.
On hitting big shots off the few balls that he faced
That is part of my game. When I bat I try and make runs; [while] fielding, I am an all-rounder. I am willing to help my team in any way that I can. It is a good win. It is a good start of the season. Hope we can continue and go from strength to strength from here.
On whether RR would have opted to bat first had they won the toss
No, I think if we would have won the toss, we would have fielded. But I must give credit to the guys and Rahul [Dravid], who has captained the team, and the experienced players. It is a glory for me to be playing in the same team as Rahul Dravid, a legend; and I am looking forward to playing some more.
On Ajinkya Rahane’s innings
He is a genius. The first time I saw him bat was against England. He got some runs there and I knew he was a talented player. He came to the crease and made it easier tonight. Well done to him and well done to the boys.
All team have good players, good international players, but you have to play on the field on that day. We had a plan and we stuck to our plan. We all tried to bowl in our areas and bowl to our fields [that we had set].
On Gilchrist being dropped early on in the innings
That happens in a game. Catches are dropped but it is a learning experience for us as a team, a young team. [...] The guys are willing to work hard and hopefully we can come heads up.
On message for the RR followers
Fans expect a lot from us. We are playing as a team, as a family, and I am honoured to be part of the Rajasthan Royals family. They have embraced me with both hands and I am looking forward [to the experience].
