We missed Morkel: Venugopal Rao
DD batsman reflects on his team’s 21-run loss against RCB
Speaking to iplt20.com after the match he shared the positives from this high-scoring match for DD.
Excerpts from his interview:
On the total under which his team was hoping to restrict RCB
When [Chris] Gayle is there [batting the way he did] we cannot do anything. He connected [the bat to ball with] every [shot].
During the second timeout [in the RCB innings, we thought] if we keep them below 200 [runs] we can make it. At the end of the day, we did make 194 runs. [...] But at the end of the day, we were in a good position
On where did he think they lost the match
As long as [Andre] Russell was connecting, we hoped that we still could make it. Even in the last over, when 30 runs were required off six balls and he hit six of the first ball, we still had hope. [There were a] lot of positives [from the match]. From Russell [playing well] to Ross Taylor [striking] form. And with one more game [remaining] before the playoffs [that was positive outcome from the match].
On Ross Taylor scoring runs
It is a great pleasure. We are happy that he is getting runs. It is a positive for the team [...].
On whether they missed Morne Morkel
Yes, of course. He is in good form and leading wicket-taker. [...]
On the wicket
The ball kept low in the second-half. And as long as Gayle is batting [there is not much you can do]. He has done that [slammed the bowlers] previously also. [...]
We are doing well [too]. The best thing is we got some positives from this match.
On his batting
It was good. As long as you are getting runs it is good. [But] we needed to win the match.
On whether players like Unmukt Chand and Andre Russell were given a game today since DD has already qualified for the playoffs
Nothing [specifically like that]. It is a team [effort after all]. [...] We had a good positive run and I hope in the next game and the playoffs, we will do well.
On their next match against KXIP
We hope to do well and get to the playoffs on a winning note.
