A team’s credentials as potential champions are only tested once the pressure of defeat is well and truly on. The Royal Challengers Bangalore had their dip in form, but are now flying with three back-to-back victories. Veteran off-spinner, Muttiah Muralitharan, watched the initial stages of IPL 2012 from the dugout, but has now managed to find a place in the playing XI. His experience and enthusiasm cannot be replaced, and this is evident with RCB playing their trademark positive brand of cricket to climb up the IPL table. A sense of expectation is palpable in the team’s camp as simply playing well won’t do; winning is all that matters this time around.

The 40-year-old spinner spoke to after the Royal Challengers’ comprehensive win over the Pune Warriors India.

How much does RCB depend on Chris Gayle?

He has been unstoppable. He has been scoring fifty runs in almost every match. He is one of the best players in the world and even in Tests, he has scored 8000 runs, averaging 50. He is dangerous in all the forms.

What’s it like to see Daniel Vettori in the dugout?

He is a great man. It’s not easy to do so as he is bowling really well. He is one of the bowlers to concede least runs in the IPL. It’s a big decision, and I have been playing well also. It’s ideal if both of us can make it to the eleven.

How many more wins will see RCB through to the playoffs?

It’s a long way to go. We have had two good wins against MI and PWI. We have got a home game against MI, it will be good. We need to win at least two out of three.

You’ve won three in a row now. What’s clicking for the team?

We are all bowling well. We didn’t bowl well as a group, but now we are starting to bowl well. We have played well in our last couple of matches.
Do you see yourself as someone who can take RCB to the next level?

Yeah, I can give my inputs. We need to get to the playoffs before planning anything.
