Captain of the Sri Lankan team is a specialist batsman with a fine technique and excellent temperament. Mahela has a Test average of over 50, and an ODI average in the 30s. He is also very quick as a fielder in the inner ring. His brilliant 374 against South Africa is a Sri Lankan record. After this milestone he struggled a little and fell into a slump, but as class players do he emerged in grand style and enjoyed a prolific series against England in December 2007.
